I kind of hope the Canucks trade Eddie Lack.
He is their best goalie, but probably not proven enough to garner a great return.

If you are trading him now then yes.
Is Bennett going to be a better player than Stamkos? Doubtful.
Would Poirier break into their line up any time soon? Doubtful.
15th overall may get you a nice piece.
We are talking about a perennial 40 goal scorer. And there are what? 2 of those in the league?
For those reasons you wouldn't trade him now for that package. You would try and resign him or at worst trade him at the deadline in my opinion.

Miller fits so well as a Canuck. I'm going to happily watch the slow demise of that team over the next few years and point and laugh.

Benning is the perfect GM for Vancouver. Thinks they don't need to rebuild, looking like the former Calgary Flames prior to our rebuild.
Vancouver would seriously be better off without Miller and rolling with a Lack/Markstrom tandem.

Haven't been through the whole thread; apologies if this has been speculated on already.
If Stamkos sticks to his guns and won't sign with Tampa, what are the rights to sign him worth? If you thought you had a real chance to sign him, is it worth a first?

Just heard it again on TSN that Flames are after Lehner where are they getting this?? And why would we want Lehner with Hiller + Ortio + Gillies?
Ortio not ready??

And Gillies in the mix as well...
Strange. Perhaps it is also to drive price up for Edmonton, or Lenher is part of a bigger trade?

They might want to move Hiller elsewhere without getting a goalie back (say to SJ or Buffalo) and have Lehner and Ortio battle for #1.
If say the Sabres give #31 for Hiller and Reinhart and the Flames can acquire Lehner for something else, like a prospect of some sort then it could work out as a win-win.

I doubt any sane GM will give up a 1st for the rights to Stamkos without any guarantees.
The most they might do is ask for permission from Yzerman to talk to Stamkos with the understanding that if Stamkos agrees to a contract they will give up a pick.

Then I want that insane GM in Calgary.
A first round pick for one of the best centers in the league? I absolutely trade our 15th overall pick for him.
There are teams that have traded First Round picks for 2 months of Mike Fisher, Craig Rivet, Paul Gaustad, Dustin Penner, Olli Jokinen..
In this draft, I'd trade up to a 5th overall for at least one season of Stamkos.
And then, perhaps he's sold on the city and team through those 10 months enough, to re-sign. But if not, the trade would not be a loss, to be able to add a player of that dynamic for an entire season.

Maybe I read ThisisanOutrage question wrong, but you would give a 1st for just the rights to a UFA Stamkos?
Yeah a 1st+ for a season of Stamkos makes sense, but what ThisIsAnOutrage was asking for was the rights to sign Stamkos.

Gotcha. To me it's a different scenario, as that would be June 17th, 2016 a year from now. (but I'm splitting hairs, so no biggie)
But, with that in mind, a 26 year old, top 3 Center is a lottery win. Easily 4 more of his best years still.
We aren't one of the absolute top destinations so if a first rounder is what we have to surrender, to have his sole negotiating rights leading to signature; then I'm still leaning towards yes. Not as convincingly though, as the concession of $9m x 7 years is daunting.
The short, yes I still do it, if he signs.

Compensation for Stamkos would be huge, plenty of teams would offer a kings ransom. Although not directly comparable Philly was going to give up a massive contract and 4 first round picks to get Weber and Nashville said no. Stamkos is worth more than Weber IMO.

Except you don't know if Stamkos will sign until after you traded the 1st rounder. 90%+ chance you are giving away a 1st rounder for nothing.

I don't think it will change things right away. If it was me, I'd want to wait at least a year to see how he actually does in the NHL.

I'd give up Raymond and second rounder for Stamkos. Actually Raymond and 2 second round picks. That should get it done...we might have to add hanowski though

I disagree, Weber is an elite D man, that makes him more valuable imo.

Adrian Dater @adater
From sources close to the situation: absolutely nothing going on between Ryan O'Reilly and the Avs as far as contract extension talks go
Adrian Dater @adater
There are no planned talks between Avs and O'Reilly's agent, Pat Morris. Trade at some point is distinct possibility

As soon as he signed that 2 year deal it was clear he was gone.

Would love it the Flames could trade for O'Reilly, as long as they could get him extended long term to a fair cap number. Anything above $6 million cap hit is silly, but $6 million or lower and he'd be a great piece to a real solid core IMO.
