Whatever route, don't neglect to check for accidents before you leave or listen to radio en-route.

you realized that if you live in airdrie, it is about a two minute drive to the aerodome.
Do you have access to a helicopter - as that would save you tons of time.

Shouldn't be TOO bad going North.
If I was you, I'd take westbound Glenmore to Sarcee and down to Stoney. Don't know how the traffic has been there over the last couple years, but you shouldn't hit as much traffic as the Crow/Bow/Memorial corridor.

At 5pm you're pretty much screwed regardless from that location. I would bank on a hour to get to the airport for sure.
NB Crowchild is a mess from 17th Ave S to about 24 Ave N. Count on at least 30 minutes to get from Glenmore/Crowchild to 24 Ave.
EB Glenmore and NB Deerfoot is a mess as you have mentioned.
WB Glenmore / NB Sarcee is a mess too. Add in the new interchange construction at Bowfort Road and it only adds to that mess. '
I drive from Glenmore/Blackfoot to the far NW every afternoon and can pretty much bank on an hour.
From that part of town I honestly don't know what to suggest. You might consider Glenmore EB, Blackfoot NB then suffer it out on Deerfoot. I don't think the alternatives are any better.

I would say take Sarcee and Stoney. I think Sarcee is pretty quick now a days. The other option I would consider is just taking 14th Street to Country Hills BLVD. 14th is pretty slow due to traffic but it is usually faster than Crowchild. Crowchild is brutal from 33rd to 16th during the afternoon rush.

Doesn't it make more sense to do
Crowchild North
Shaganappi North Turn off
Right on Country Hills Boulevard
Right on Harvest Hills Boulevard
Right on 96 Ave (turns into airport trail)

Stoney definitely gets you there faster than the Country Hills way.
Although I would agree you should split off onto Shag and take it to Stoney instead of taking Crow all the way to Stoney, if you go that way.

Hesla, if you are still checking CP now, you are already late to get to the airport.

Crowchild can be a mess north bound. I think Sarcee to the ring road would be the fastest.

Hmm... apparently it's pretty close. I ran the path in google maps starting from the Shaganappi/Country Hills turnoff. The Country Hills way is 2 minutes faster than continuing north and connecting to Stoney way but the Stony path comes with an additional 10km added to the trip.
Randomly speaking, Crowchild with traffic is generally faster than backtracking and taking Sarcee. If you take Crowchild, I DEFINITELY suggest taking the far right lanes and merging into the lane you need at the last second. This will shave up to 10-20 minutes off your commute if you live in the NW. Douchbag move perhaps, but worth the time savings.

I know this is probably a troll post, but as an Airdrie resident I have to say:
Being close to the airport is one of the FEW things this city does have going for it. I know lots and lots of airline/airport workers who live here.
