How does revenue sharing work?

http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/CBA...2013%20(1).pdf

35% of playoff gate receipts go into the fund.

Broken logic?

As she is paying the hockey organization for tickets, this would mean she should have the ability to vent her frustration to the hockey organization - the City shouldn't care less what she has to say.

She doesn't pay city taxes and the mayor isn't elected by her, too bad.

Actually, she does pay city taxes in the form of the luxury tax charged within Westgate. She is also exactly the type of person the Westgate complex was designed to create: people coming from outside Glendale and spending money in the community. She is something Glendale desperately needs a lot more of to stave off financial insolvency.

That being said, you are of course right. She isn't a resident of Glendale eligible to vote, so the mayor likely could not care less what she has to say. But this is really semantics, as given the vote was obviously a fait acompli, a resident of Glendale making the same comments would have been similarly ignored.

Craig Morgan @cmorganfoxaz
Aside from former city attorney Craig Tindall, Glendale's case also rests on the city's former assistant city manager, Julie Frisoni.

Wow, can't say I disagree.

Yes, there will be a return hearing. June 29th.
That date is on a Monday!

Why does Bettman insist that Phoenix will work in the NHL when everyone with even half a brain can see that it is just a colossal failure?

Because people are willing to own and operate a team in Phoenix.

And that right there is the bottom line.

All the talk about where the NHL "should" relocate or expand is pointless if the that first requirement isn't met. There is no point even talking about Portland or Seattle at this point as no one has really come forward with a strong inclination to bring a team to those cities.

On the subject of relocation, I found this interesting tidbit on nhl.com:

So long as the city pays for millions in losses in trumped up management fees right?

It took him a few years to find some suckers who actually had enough credit to finance buying the team. Meanwhile the league took the loses and still do in the matter of equalization payments.

They haven't failed in Phoenix, they have failed in Glendale.

They failed in Phoenix too. It's interesting to hear the excuses for their failure over the years.
They don't have a proper hockey arena. Well they got one.
They don't have a stable ownership. They had one and they have one again.
They don't have a winning team. They had one and that didn't help either.
The economy is bad. Well it's been bad in other places as well and it hasn't always been bad.
It's too far to drive. Ottawa says hello.

That's irrelevant to the point.

You could argue that nobody would want to operate a team in Glendale absent such a deal, and you would probably be right. But the deal exists, ergo, there are people willing to operate a team.

You can write whatever narrative you want, it's what you always do. The fact of the matter is of that list it was all derailed when point #2 was put in a piss poor location.

And how can anyone with half a brain even suggest that because Ottawa can do it, that the Coyotes can? The Senators have struggled with attendance for a Canadian market, if it has that impact up here it's going to be amplified by a significant margin in a less traditional market.

There was a reason it was put in a piss poor location. No one else was willing to have it.

Yeah. A piss-poor location AKA Arizona.

If the solution is to just choose a market by size, then all USA/Canadian sports leagues would have teams in Vancouver and Montreal (given both are better than 30th in metro population). But they don't. The main reason is that hockey is, and for the foreseeable future, will be THE hot ticket in any Canadian city. Aside from a successful NFL team in Toronto to the point of decade-long dynasty, I can't see any way that the NHL gets outspent by a Canadian market. It's the same reason that the MLS isn't a massive league with teams that could potentially win the club world cup. It's because generating interest in a sport that's in a non-traditional market takes a long, fricking time! I also happen to think that the solution is not to plunk hockey into the desert, and hope they show up. Maybe throw a team into Seattle, later Portland, Wisconsin (easy self-marketing rivalry with the Wild) etc. Then, expand on a geographical basis, as local rivalries market themselves far better than any level of marketing can usually do. If hockey ever manages to become just a huge sport to the point of NFL-dom, THEN you go where you want. Not now though. It was idiotic to put the team there, and it's idiotic to keep it there.
