I guess CPers love Russian forwards.
I love Swedish Defenceman (Kylington + Andersson for me so far)

I went with Chlapik. Was thinking of going with Senyshyn but Chlapik is better right now, has at least an equal ceiling and is a safer bet to reach it than Senyshyn. Many ranking have Chlapik as a 1st rounder.

I'm not as scared of the Russian factor as some, but I find it almost impossible to imagine we take 2 Russians with our first 2 picks.
This franchise has only drafted 1 Russian in the past 12 years, and that was a 7th rounder (Rafikov).

When did Senyshyn become Russian? He's from Ontario.

I like MVS, good skating and hockey IQ along with a rising stock.
Would be stoked if we picked him up at 45

I haven't watched any of these guys play, only read the scouting reports, and by the sounds of it, that Mitchell Vande Sompel would be a sure-fire 1st round pick if not for being 5'10''? Sounds like a better skating, smarter, Kris Russell.
I voted Senyshyn. If I could re-vote... I think I'd go Sompel.

If the Flames pick Chlapik and Senyshyn is still on the table that would be surprising. A left shooting center vs a natural RW power forward. And Chlapik has been criticized for his skating, which is something that absolutely needs to translate to the speed of the NHL game today. In contrast, Senyshyn has excellent skating.

Considering the awesomeness of the name Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson, and just now realizing this can be shortened to "JFK", I feel no choice but to vote for JFK all the way from here on out.

Not at all worried about road games in Dallas?

I like Vande Sompel a lot, but I worry he's a bit too small for the Flames.

Having seen Chlapik play many times, I'm mystified about the criticisms of his skating (but then, I also don't understand those who say Konecny must get quicker).

I chose "other," thinking that either Parker Wotherspoon, D or Alexandre Carrier, D might be the pick.
However the more I read and research, the more I think Dermott, Vande Sompel, or Spencer would be better picks if they are on the board. Just not sure if they will be.
Been reading a bunch about Jakub Larsson also, and would love to see him available here as well. Not likely, but who knows.

This draft is going to be so random that I wouldn't be shocked if a good prospect or two that was rated to go in the 1st round might fall down to 45.
A wild card might distort things significantly. I wouldn't be shocked if we see another run of goalies in the 30's again like last year. The goalies this year are very comparable to the ones last year and most of the teams with those picks need goalies.
Buffalo (31), Arizona (32), Edmonton (33), Carolina (35), New Jersey (36 + 41), and San Jose (38) all have lack luster prospects in their system and not that good of goalies in the NHL either, except NJ and maybe Carolina. There are 3 or 4 good ones between Booth, Blackwood, Samsonov and Montembeault.
Last year, goalies went at 34, 36, 37, and 39.

Seneshyn has great speed but I don't see scores hands from the videos of him. He drives the net hard but in close it's like he's just trying to jam the puck in. Could be a Paul Ranheim or Matthew Lombardi.
If a guy like Chlapik or Dermott is available, I think I'd go with them.

He has a good accurate wrister and can make a decent pass. He's about as good of a prospect as Poirier (slightly less hands though). Getting a player that is even in the same conversation as him at 45 would be awesome.
Even if his offense doesn't translate at a high level, he would be a good 3rd line RW, which the team could use. Speed kills.
I would still probably go in a different direction as well, but it would largely depend on who is actually on the board. So many good players.

Didn't realize Button disliked Spencer so much.
This is a blurb from Hockey Prospectus
Quote:
Spencer is not the most exciting defensive in the 2015 draft, between playing for a mediocre OHL team and not having many elite tools, but once he see him begin the transition, you can see why there is reason for fussing over the former third overall pick of the OHL priority draft. His first passes are simply ferocious. Beyond that he has a good sized body, and above average tools in his skating and puck handling making him a fairly safe bet for a good professional career. His skills set would not be out of place as a late first or early second round pick, but in a draft as deep as this one, he may fall to the later second round. His overall tool set makes Spencer a worthy Tier III draft prospect
