Yup, now just give up alcohol, pre-marital sex, and toss on some magic underwear and you're there.

No but it does show you have more restraint then a vegan... no chance in hell a vegan would be able to go 3 weeks before announcing it to the world

They drink. I have family that used to be JW.

They're just not allowed to celebrate pretty much anything.

It's very weird. A lot of their beliefs are very weird.

I consider any food left in the break room for more than 24 hours communal. Also, when living with roommates, all food is communal unless very specifically noted otherwise.

It's people like you who drove me to stash food in hidden caches like some traumatized survivor of a famine.

This is kind of a hybrid GMG and social convention. I've always found it disgusting when people blow their noses into napkins and put them back in their pocket. Like even at the dinner table it seems to be acceptable! Even blowing your nose in general, like mid conversation, WTF!

When did we decide that this was ok? Lord help us all

Caveat: if you're older than 75, you can do whatever the #### you want.

Also - I hate the convention of saying 'bless you' when someone sneezes. I never do it. When people do it to me I want to tell them to shut it. I don't want to be blessed I'm just sneezing for Christ's sake.

Hey I like it in here. Good place to avoid Jankowski threads

I know where those caches are.

^Also, I make a point of saying "May the Force be with you" when someone sneezes.

I love this thread.

If I ever feel socially awkward about anything, I'm going to come here and re-read about how much worse I could have it.

I think wearing outdoor shoes inside stems from cultures that recently had dirt floors.

Once we moved beyond dirt floors it just doesn't make any sense to track the filth from outside into the house.

I'd rather deal with dirt than the oil from your feet.

What about the oil from your shoes, or the poop, or pee or god only knows what is on the bottom of your shoes.

Once you go down a shoes on or shoes off policy, you kind of have to stick with it. I wouldn't want to take my shoes off in a house if everybody else wore shoes, and vice versa.

What I do dislike is the Chinese tradition where you take your shoes off and wear their guest slippers.

As a professional pool tech, I have to say this isn't really so much a manners/social convention thing but an actual health issue. You're taking all the germs and trace-fecal matter you've accumulated throughout the day and depositing it into a wonderfully receptive environment for bacteria and germs to reproduce, with plenty of ready hosts for the disease to spread.

You should really start showering before you get in the pool.

Does anybody REALLY shower before they get in the pool though? Like, naked, lather up, get in all the nooks and crannies? All I've ever seen anyone do is take a quick rinse while already in their swimsuit.

And the above is why I sure as heck shower when I get OUT of the swimming pool.
