From everything I've gathered on Svechnikov, safe pick. Very much in the same vein as Tarasenko I think.

I read a couple interviews with him and he seems like a pretty solid dude. He said that his goal is to play in the NHL and is willing to play in the AHL first if that is what it takes. He flat out said the KHL is not the same as the NHL and is a step down.

Svechnikov seems like a really solid option, but I've still got a man crush on Brock Boeser. Top line RW sniper that plays a power game. At 15 he's a 'swing-for-the-fences' type pick.
If Konecky and Merkley don't make it to us at 15 that means we're probably going to end up with another really good player as one of them would have dropped.

In the list to go before 15 I have:
McDavid, Eichel, Marner, Strome, Zacha, Provorov, Hanifin, Crouse, Werenski, Connor, Rantanen, Meier, and Barzal (not necessarily in that order). So if Konecky and Merkley are in that top 14, at least one really good player will fall to us at 15.

I personally don't believe that will happen though. I think Konecky and Merkley are both very good players too, but I keep hearing the 'we need to get bigger' thing from Burke ringing in my ears, so I think the BPA for the Flames is the player with skill and size, and Konecky isn't really that big at all. I still prefer Merkley to him regardless because I think there are some question marks of Konecky's skating and speed.

I agree with you about Boeser though, because I think the Flames are probably really high on Connor and if they don't get him then I think they'll love Boeser. Seems to have all the tools.

There will still be so many great options at 15. That's what I love about this draft, there are players who will go in the 2nd round that are potentially first rounders.

He is not that bad defensively, and usually that's a sign of some good character. I think Tarasenko is a good comparison.

Just in terms of personality. I would be surprised/impressed if he gets 37 goals like Tarasenko did at the age of 23.

Safe pick; wants to stay in NA.

Gurianov is the risky pick, although some say he's better than Svechnikov. High risk/high reward with him.

Oilers did their little write up on Svechnikov. I pray the Flames take him because by all accounts, the Oilers would LOVE him @16. I don't want to hate this kid.

What's wrong with him posting things about the prospect? I've found his posts quite interesting. Because of him, I know a little more about Svechnikov than what I did prior to the post.

Oooooh. And who do you really like in this draft? Anyone in particular? This is a thread about the draft after all.

I wish I could find more stuff to post about this player but there isn't. In the event that more stuff comes out about Svechnikov, I will post it.

He's brainwashed me because I'm really starting to hope he's around for our pick as well.

I think it is a long shot that Calgary takes a Russian forward with the 15th overall pick.

Provorov and Svehnikov should be the exceptions.

They played in the CHL and have intentions of playing in the NHL. I'd gladly take Svechnikov, would be a great 2nd line LW behind Gaudreau.

What do you guys think of the undersized forward Conor Garland?

Went undrafted in the 2014 draft, but lit up the Q this year.

Deep draft, lots of choices - no need to take a player that has some additional risks. And like or not - any Russian has some additional risk, even if it is minimized.

Woodlief a little late on calling Senyshyn a sleeper

BS train of thought, Going to leave it at that as every year we have this same ridiculous nonsensical argument. The KHL/NHL transfer agreement will be finalized this summer and this Russian factor crap to be put to rest.

I agree. It's like saying don't draft Canadian players because Lindros refused to sign in Quebec or don't draft Swiss players because Sven is Swiss.
