Bettman's caving to Detroit's demand to be in the East makes a move to Quebec problematic...therefore, only Las Vegas (also a guaranteed fail, IMO), Seattle, Portland, Hamilton, or the following, very unlikely destinations, Houston, blast from the past, Kansas City (Hello Scouts mk. II!), or Milwaukee (fire up the Wild/Blackhawk/Blues rivalries!) make any sense for the wreckage of this franchise. I have no idea on any of those city's stadia situations.

Las Vegas is anything but a guaranteed fail. They've already got a better season ticket base then most teams.

Aren't those just deposits that don't have to be fully purchased in the event LV gets a team? It'll be interesting to see how many actual season tickets they sell once the price goes up significantly and people can't just walk away once fully purchased.

grandstanding to get out of a deal that's absolutely brutal for a city in the red.
If only all politicians could grandstand this way.

Many people are praising the fan who passionately blasted COG last night. This blogger says her rant missed the point.
http://deadspin.com/fan-wants-to-spe...ium=socialflow
Ronda Pearson, a 40-year-old nurse from Phoenix, blasted Glendale mayor Jerry Weiers and other government officials for voiding the contract, a legally questionable move that puts the Coyotes’ future up in the air. She decided to make it about financial support, which was precisely the wrong tack to take.
Pearson gave an interview to Sportsnet, in which she hit the same points: the city isn’t supporting the franchise. She couldn’t be more wrong. Glendale—or more specifically, Glendale taxpayers, which Pearson, as a resident of Phoenix, is not—are supporting the Coyotes to the tune of $15 million a year. The city has lost more than $14 million over the first two years of the deal.
It is frustratingly backward that Pearson is being cast as some sort of populist hero, when it’s really the politicians of Glendale who are attempting to fight back against the public-funding blackmail that sports leagues and teams have perpetrated almost unopposed across the nation over the last few decades. It says something depressing about America that we take it as a matter of course that tax dollars should go to providing real estate to the ultra-rich so they can become even richer.
It says even more about fandom. And that’s what Pearson is, after all: a fan. She doesn’t want her hockey team to leave town. That’s a sympathetic position, and I do actually feel for her. But fandom blinds. The only honest argument she could have made would go along these lines: I want the Coyotes in Arizona, and I do not care about the real and opportunity costs required to keep them here.

Firing up "Brass Bonanza" as a goal song again?
Clearly, a move to an East time zone would mean that promises made to the Wings would have to be broken, as they would be the logical team to move back to the Central Division

Will the NHL allow the Coyotes to move away from the Phoenix area?
If you have a failing business for like 15 straight years, why do keep trying in the same area? Why not just close up shop and move elsewhere?

I agree, and I've met Rhonda.. that was not the point. Who cares where the tickets came from to the mayor?
The bottom line is this; the council members enacted an illegal process to nullify an agreement that was legally and fairly voted on and approved. Only 2 years ago, they thought the Yotes would cave and it didn't happen.. now the hammer will drop twice as hard on the city and it's residents. Nice job council.

There's been nowhere with any ownership group and/or arena to bring them team.
In the last 15 years, where could they have gone? KC is the only option with a ready venue, and I think we could all agree that would be a bad place to put the team. I think they would have let it move after the last fiasco if there was a place to put them with owners willing to buy + pay for relocation.
I think the NHL BOG was hoping Seattle would move quicker on the arena build.

Rick Westhead @rwesthead
Coyotes owner Anthony LeBlanc says team will file temp restraining order, file for injunction, file $200M claim later today or tomorrow
Stephen Whyno @SWhyno
Asked if #Coyotes are considering move to Las Vegas, Seattle or Quebec, LeBlanc says, "No." Says team not getting out now.
Craig Morgan @cmorganfoxaz
Anthony LeBlanc says the team has it's chance for an out right now but it is going the opposite direction to stay in AZ.

The Flames had been a failed franchise for nearly a decade in 2003. Glass houses and stones and all that.
Ultimately, the Coyotes will remain in the Phoenix area so long as someone willing to operate the team there exists. Though this new issue adds the complexity of needing a place to play as well. So an impasse with Glendale and an inability to work a deal with the Suns might force a relocation regardless of the will of the current ownership.

So the oilers are the worst team because of how their hockey operations are run but I'd say the yotes are the worst franchise. It really is sad that they're in the league.
