Other random side note, Patrick Sharp is trying out an stick identical to Iggys in tonight's SCF game to try and spark his scoring because "It seems to work pretty good for him"

Who here thinks Iginla on the 4th line at 40yrs old is a better idea than say a Lance Bouma? History aside I am taking Lance 10/10 times.

People forget when Lanny was a 4th line/scratch in 1989 the game was way different. 4th line is asked for hard shut down minutes now, something (all do respect) cherry pick Iggy never really wanted or did.

Let's all play a video this summer, that of the game 6 win over the Canucks. Play some current history and move on. We'll honour Iggy in due time when we retire his number.

Iggy becomes UFA in 2017-2018, and he'll be 40. I highly doubt anyone offers him a multi-year deal, in fact there probably won't be 30 teams lined up to sign him.

I still think he'll have something to give in his 40th year, and given the rate the Flames young players are progressing, they should be darn close to being a contending team by that time.

I would love to see Iggy sign a 1 year deal (money doesn't matter since it's 1 year, so whatever market value is) and watch him play bottom 2 lines for the Flames. Besides the obvious things like leadership, experience and the effect he'd have on the fans, I think Iggy could bring a positive hockey results in his final year in the NHL given his track record for fitness. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect 10 to 20 goals from him. He could be our new Bollig, but with goals.

The ultimate would be watching Gio hand the Cup to Iggy and have Bob Cole call it. Can you imagine a repeat of THIS?

You've done it Iggy! You've done it!

If you are opposed to signing a 40 year old Iggy to a one year deal (giving up nothing) why?

I love Iginla, but any talk about trading for him or signing him when he becomes an UFA is a bit premature at this point. I don't agree that you just bring a player back on the team for nostalgia - though if anyone has earned that, it was him. I want to wait and see how he is looking in his last year of his contract before any decisions are made, as well as look at the makeup of Calgary at that time as well. If it makes sense to bring him in and fill a hole assuming he is capable of playing whatever said hole is, then great. If not, you just wait until he retires and then you go about retiring his number.

I wold LOVE to see Iginla on the team and being some sort of a contributor. I would hate to see him sign for a year, eat some cap space and a roster spot, and have me (and probably a great number of fans) start getting frustrated with him on the team and becoming a whipping boy.

When he sold his house, I don't think Iginla had any plans on coming back to Calgary, during his career or post career. I think people are beating a dead horse.

Obviously he's going to sell his house when he goes to a different team. No need to have an empty house in the city of the past. He may come back to Alberta (Calgary or Edmonton) once he his done with hockey as this is his hometown.

I honestly don't care if Iginla gets a cup. I just want the Flames to win a cup. He chose to go and chase a cup elsewhere - which is his prerogative. But it matters nothing to me if he actually gets a ring or not - here or anywhere else.

So is Jiri or any poster that still doesn't worship the ground he stands on a "hater"? The only tired act IMO is the fans that cling to him like the Flames organization or fans still owe him something. He left the Flames and the city and it's time to realize he's not a Flame or a Calgarian anymore. Great Flame but the team has moved on to the next generation of players.

I hope Bob Cole isn't still calling games in 17-18.

100% agree. Some fans live in the past and are always trying to make things like they were. It's funny because as fans we get upset when a player is selfish and puts himself before the team and we say that that player "cares more about the name on the back than he does the crest on the front" The fans who keep wanting to bring back Iggy seem to care more about the name on the back instead of the crest on the front. I trust our management and they may well decide to bring Iggy back at some point (either to actually play or to sign a 1 day contract and retire) but to say that anyone who doesn't want to bring him back is a hater is a little closed minded. Stop beating the dead whores.

Well, it's easier to call Tinordi out because he is a hit and run troll who virtually never engages in topics or debates. All he ever does on this forum is walk in to a thread, take a dump, and leave. Doesn't mean his sentiment is wrong in this case, but at least Jiri and others are adding to the discussion.

Wasn't there a quote this year from Iginla about not cheering for the Flames or not overly happy with their success?

Understandable as he plays for a division rival and is on the outside looking in.. but that pretty much sums up how I feel. If Iginla is to win a Cup with the Avs that means the Flames haven't won it, so I will not cheer for him to win it.

I wouldn't hold out hope it will happen. But I would be on board IF and only IF we are true contenders that season. Not pretenders, contenders. When all our young guys are in their primes, our goaltending is elite, our backend is strong, and Treliving is given the green light to ''go for it''. Then, and only then would I want Iggy back. A lot of things would all have to happen at the right times for all that to fall into place. But if by some miracle it all works out that way, then sure bring him back for one last finals run.

Yea I'd much rather listen to the younger "talent" that Rogers employs.

And if Iginla at 40 years old is capable of filling a role like Jagr does now, I wouldn't be against bringing him back for one last year. If he's just a passenger at that point, then no thanks.

He never said anything about being unhappy about the Flames success. On the contrary, I'd be supremely confident in believing he would be happy - he still has lots of friends in this org. What I believe he said was that he wasn't paying close attention to the Flames. Which would also stand to reason since he was kind of playing for a different team at the time.

I would definitely welcome Iggy back as a 3rd line RW for us.

For his age, he still has quite the shot, he could possibly still be a good PP option.

I get the impression that Iginla and Hartley didn't get along. In his last season Iginla was demoted to the second line and I don't think he liked it.
