Yeah, put me in the camp for not wanting to trade Ferland for Skinner. Ferland's a beauty and, besides Bouma, we don't have anyone that plays that way. Classic case of being worth a whole lot more to us than what his actual trade value might be. Besides, I want to see what Ferland can become because I think we're just scratching the surface here. I think he's going to be a consistent 15-20g, 30-40p player for us once he hits his prime and with the way he plays, I just wouldn't want to give that up. He's a unique player, he's talented, he's young and he's a beast. In short, he's a guy you keep, not trade for more of what you already have in abundance.

I hope you are right Bavklund is going to be cheap but I am not holding my breath
It really shouldn't cost that much to re-sign him honestly. He's been injured in both of his years on his bridge deal and hasn't been able to crack 40 points yet because of that. Though, he's managed to maintain a .5PPG, so I guess there is that. A 3x3 is my guess, I firmly believe it won't be as much as some on here think.

That's a good guess. I think they end up at $3.75M for 3 or 4 years. Once you start getting into the $4M for Backlund, it starts to feel like overpayment.
Panthers fan on HF proposed this (if Meier and Zacha are gone by 11th overall)
11th overall
15th overall
53rd overall
I'd take it. There's a lot of high end players in the 5-10ish range that one or two the Flames are eyeing may fall to 11.
36% chance of Barzal being on the board. Hmmm. I like it, if only because it puts us ahead of Bruins and Kings, who are surely going to **** us over somehow.

you're picky. I would do it for a lot of players other tan just Rantanen but I guess it depends who the Flames have on their "ledges" and if they can get someone they really want.

Bummer getting the first stab at Soderberg would be awesome
It could work. No harm in trying.
It is just that we are two weeks away from when teams can talk to any free agent, and for a player to not wait until that period, you have to pretty much sign him for whatever the player and his agent thinks he will get on the open market or they will want to talk to other teams.
Also in trading for UFA rights, the best way to do it is not to trade directly for the rights. You call up Boston and ask for permission to talk to Soderberg or McQuaid and agree to give up a pick if they agree to terms on a contract. That is a win-win-win scenario. Flames get a player before FA, Bruins get a pick for a player they were going to lose anyway, and player gets a contract done.
P.S. Reinhart and Cundari have little to no trade value, especially Cundari.
Skinner has had his head shook too many times. Let's have a look.
In this one he gets hit by Orpik, shoulder on shoulder. He was just getting back from a concussion.
Here he gets hit by Mark Fraser, not really a hard hit even when he slides into the boards. Yet he is clearly out of it for a few.
Here Jared Cowan wastes him.
Finally, this was in the pre-season last year and shows how easy this guy is now concussed.
This guy is a career ending concussion waiting to happen. He has great skill put he is constantly putting himself in the train tracks. Couple that with how much more physical the West is and it is an easy pass.

Not Crouse personally. Big body yes. Just reeks of a guy who's draft stock rose due to riding other players coat tails.
Who's coat tails was he riding? His stock was already high before Bennett came back. I think scouts see an extremely raw and talented player that, if developed properly, could become a big time power forward in this league. At 17/18, points aren't everything for players like this (power forwards), they are projecting years out to what they think he might be if they can put it all together. That said, he would be risky pick. There's probably a small chance he becomes John Leclair, but a much greater chance he becomes Taylor Pyatt. Personally, I'd take that risk at 15 if he somehow fell to us, anyone at that range is 50/50 at best but Crouse's high end potential is very tantalizing and just what we're missing in our top 6.
What would be the price of aquiring the rights of a UFA?
We got Widemans rights for Jordan Henry (nobody) and a 2012 5th. He was 29 and he was putting up 30-50 points in previous years.
Let's say we were to go after Boston UFAs Adam Mcquaid, 28, and Carl Soderberg, 29 from Boston.
Would something like Rienhart + Cundari + 2015 6th be overkill or not enough?
That's way overkill. The only reason Henry was included in the Wideman deal was because the Flames were at the 50 contract limit and could only add Wideman if they moved another contract out.
Those types of deals are rare, but they can still happen. Last year, the Islanders gave the Sharks a 5th round pick for the rights to Dan Boyle (and then failed to sign him -- it would have been a 4th rounder if he signed). In 2013, the Flyers got Mark Streit's rights for a 4th rounder and a throw-in nothing player.
Based on past precedent, in order to make that kind of deal, you'd probably have to offer up a 4th-6th round pick. Really, it all depends on what the other GM is willing to take. Since it's an opportunity to get something for a player he's going to lose for nothing, the asking price is never going to be that high.
