Listening to the Beards seemed appropriate for some reason.

Maybe someone else can chime in if this was true or maybe John was just drinking too much and pulling my leg.
I always understood that it started with the Islanders cup teams.

Friedman told Kerr yesterday that the TV production dept (CBC I guess) discussed this last year and the NHL told them no.

If say Gillette pays the NHL big time for advertising razors and demands players to be shaved, and then the NHL in turn fines players for having facial hair, that may work. It's like that NBA uniform rules.

Yep. Personally, I don't care if the game grows in the U.S. But I also recognize that the people who do care about growing the game in the U.S. understand the market a lot better than a bunch of die-hard Canadian hockey fans do. Marketing in the U.S. means stars. Stars mean faces. You can pretty much measure an athlete's endorsement power by how many random people on the street recognize his face. Far more Americans recognize Tom Brady's face than know that he wears #12.

Too bad they have to wear helmets or we could get some nice footy hairstyles into the mix:

that should start by making the players faces look accurate before moving on to facial hair

I still only have NHL14 and Johnny looks like he made a wish to the Zoltar machine at the county fair.

At least they finally got Giordano right. It only took becoming the captain and having a Norris trophy worthy season.
