SEO Question

Not sure which would be the right forum to post this in, but figure I'd try here.

I run a financial services company and am in the process of updating our website. Part of the update includes adding some resources which include basic articles related to finances. The content of these articles were provided as part of a package related to some other services we subscribe to from the same company. The issue is that these articles have already been published on the web by other financial services companies (around 2-3 other websites depending on the article) that have subscribed to the same content.

My question is whether putting these articles up will hurt my SEO ranking? From my research there seems to be some notions about whether there is an SEO penalty or not. The rest of our website is original content. I'm also aware that I could completely block these articles from being seen by Google, but as they are pretty content rich I'm hoping to use them to help with our SEO.

Seems to suggest that unless you are manipulating things to game the system it should be fine. Syndication is huge these days and if the big sites do it without getting downgraded by Google one would think it's ok.
