But before that, let's examine your claim:
Your implication here, is that Hobey Baker winners are the best players to come out of the NCAA. There's no sidestepping of that statement - these are your words. You're drawing a correlation between Hobey Baker and NCAA All-Tournament teams as lacking value due to the presence of non-NHL players. That's the only reason you even brought the Hobey Baker up - to artifically evidence that NCAA produces so few real NHLers. The other implication here, is that you ::weren't:: expecting Jonathan Toews, Zach Parise, Johnny Gaudreau, Marty St. Louis, Blake Wheeler, Phil Kessel, Kyle Turris, Danny DeKeyser, Ryan McDonagh, Torey Krug, Kevin Hayes etc to be on the All-Tournament teams list.
Now this is a combination of what I posted, all of which was directed in response to your assertions:
Do you now understand? Players falling under similar criteria to Mark Jankowski, who are named to or win national awards like this, are generally not no-name players. They're outliers, most of whom went on to have pretty good NHL careers. Jury's still out on the younger players, because they're respectively a 23 old D, a 22 year old who's 5'11 and missed a whole pro season with a torn ACL, and three players who made the team simultaneously in the same year and still haven't had any opportunity at a pro career - that's pretty historic for three players in the same year to fit the same criteria after only five players over the previous 24 years did so.
|
The only point I was trying to make ia that we all have a general idea of who has come out of the NCAA. All these correlations and assumptions your doing on your own.

Well if you want to get technical GranteedEV said a few pages back that Jankowski's FLOOR was third line NHL center and he was the one who posted the All star team so there's that.
Again as I've already said it wasn't arguing a point. It was giving a full picture. A bit of perspective.

I basicslly said he had a good tournament and we seen some progression but that doesn't really get me all that excited because a lot of guys have had good tournaments and never amounted to anything. It's just my opinion but somehow you want to tell me that I meant that as something else and argue over it to the bitter end even when I tell you differently.

This seems crystal clear now.
So now that you've clearly made your point and have said the same thing over and over and over... does this mean you're ready to stop now? Or are you going to continue with it for the rest of the summer anytime someone posts in this thread?

Are you here because you thought there might be Jankowski updates or are you just back again to complain about me some more?
I can't help it if other posters put words in my mouth or make assumptions. All I can do is clarify.

So what do people hope to see out of Jankowski's season next year?

Look at this page. 6/8 posts are from you! Maybe pick up a non hockey (or specifically, non Jankowski) hobby. Arguing endlessly like this in the off season when we will get no new information is getting ridiculous.

A third line, two way centre that has an offensive upside. Will be used on the PK Unit and shutdown line. I'll be happy if he can have more of a defensive style of play then offence tbh. Hoping this is what we see in the future at least
Edit: this is what I want him to be for the flames

A C on his jersey, plenty of minutes, staying healthy, over 13 goals, over 19 assists on a line with guys like Saracino, Pinho, and that other guy guys mentioned earlier in this thread. Then after his senior year ends, signs his ELC and plays on some lines with decent wingers such as Poirier, Granlund, Klimchuk, Ferland, Agostino, Shore, Hudler, Gaudreau, or Bennett while getting quick stretch passes from defenseman such as Giordano, Brodie, Wideman, Russell, Kulak, Culkin, and Gilmour. In doing so, helps contribute to either a deep playoff run for the Stockton Heat or the Calgary Flames. Oh, and scores his first NHL point in game 82 of the season to make it three years in a row for the Flames.

I want to see 15-20g and 20-25a from him next year with no regression in any part of his game. Then I want him signed so we can debate his career/draft position/potential for the next several years.

I'd like to see him play on the top line.
I'd like to see him be involved in 30+% of the Friars offense.
I'd like to see him stay healthy.

In addition to the above, I'd like to see him:
-arrive at development camp closer to 210 lbs
-play a more physical, imposing game while staying healthy
The Friars are going to be weaker this season without Gillies & Acciari. It's unfair to expect much from the team, but it's a good opportnity for Jankowski to step up & show what he can do when he's expected to be 'The Man'. I don't expect PPG from him, but I'll be very happy if he achieves it.
Truthfully, I'm happy with his development so far. He hasn't trended towards being a 1st line center, but he hasn't trended towards being a bust either. He's on track to be a #2 playmaking center with size & good defensive ability. Thing is, on the Flames he may only need to be a #3 shut-down center, which is why it's important he adds more bulk and a physical element to his game.
Maybe he ends up being our Sean Couturier. That would not be a disaster.

The ironic thing is that if Jankowski develops to a point where he decides it's in his best interest to become a UFA, 80% of these posters defending him today will turn on him instantly and say he was never that good to begin with.
The same way Sven has been re-branded by the mob.
As always, I hope for the best and would love to see him Flames colours one day.

If that occurs, I think it's more likely that the ones who continue to doubt him and call him a terrible pick would then start saying, "who cares, he was a terrible pick anyways..."
Like a broken record.

What would the mob say if scenarios don't interest me. But it does bring up a fair point.
If Jankowski has a great year he will have a legitimate option of going the free agency route. With the Flames set with Monahan, Bennett, Backlund, and a lot of depth at the position. If he doesn't then his value as a prospect is minimal.
But that is something to worry about if it ever becomes something to worry about.

I'll be pretty pissed if I've followed janko this much, then he really turns the corner this year and signs with a different team.

Jankowski Contract:
How will Jankowski's age affect his contract when he is finished school next April.
Will he get the same three year contract as Monahan, Poirier, Klimchuk & Bennett,? (.925 .833 .833)
