Another of the crowd. Very bottom of the lower bowl aren't great seats for sightlines so remained empty, and then there's the odd clump of empty yellows at the top of the lower bowl, then a few nosebleeds. There's 48k there at least.

Not sure why so many fans decided to straggle in so late. There was about 15000 people missing for that opening ceremony, and if only 1000 tickets were left it looks like there's still another 5-8k fans still left to show up and we're 10 minutes in.
It's weird, as it's such a big event to take your time getting to.

People are maybe unfamiliar with the way FIFA does things, in that a 4 pm starts means the whistle blows at 4 pm, not 4:15 or later as it would for hockey or something.
And oh lord the zero parking situation, part of the reason I'm going Thursday and not today.

I bet you it's because of the security of getting 50000 people in.

Agreed it looks like about 48k, but didn't they say 57k was capacity and were pumping this up as the largest crowd in Canadian women's world cup history?
If there was 1000 tickets left shouldn't they have about 56k there? And if there's only 48k, they didn't break the record, right?
I'm just throwing out questions because I can't quite remember all the details.

I don't know what the number ended up being. I suspect a few more are still coming in, and then they ended up not selling some seats and were unsure with the media setup how many would end up being available in the final tally. From what I understand the max that were to be sold was somewhere around 54k.
Canada is clearly the better team here, but look stupendously nervous at the moment... they better settle down.

The second game tonight is versus a Stanley Cup final game so I dunno. For those at Commonwealth your ticket is for both games so I'm curious to see how many stay.
Sesselmann has screwed up HUGE twice now, now forcing her teammate into a card. She needs to get it together immediately. At least Buchanan is looking great at right back.
That turf sucks when it's above like 20 degrees, you can see why they didn't really want to play on it.

Canada still trying to be too cute. China has done a better job adjusting to the horrible turf, impressive given that they've only been here a week. Overall it's pretty poor football on both sides to be honest.

Announced as 53k, but this game kind of took the wind out of the sails of what should have been an electric, fun atmosphere. I think this is about the least amount of noise 50k people could possible make, lol.
