I mean if Tsonga loses because the roof debris....like wow. He was in cruise control at that point, but Nishikori got a chance to compose himself and now you give Tsonga very little chance to win the 5th.

Tsonga/Stan is going to be ball bashers paradise. I still say Jo Willy is too flakey to put it together long enough to be champ, but Stan's the real deal. anyone who's gone through Djoker and Rafa to win a slam in the past is no one-hit wonder. taking out Fed at this stage in their careers is not a huge upset.

i'm still pissed I can't watch the Rafole quarter tomorrow live. but I'm not convinced that's the defacto final. I'm still cheering for the Swiss guy, just the stockier one now.

Serena predictably going through Errani with ease. The big show figures to be on no later than 8am.

And there is a way to watch at work if you must (and of course, you must). Just get a UK proxy/VPN and watch it on ITV's website.

It's impossible for me to watch at work, I should have taken a personal day, I really wanted to see today's matches live.

Perfect start for Novak, double break to go up 4-0....horrible next three games, back on serve 4-3. This is not going to be pretty tennis, it's going to be a fierce grind to win.

Novak is in complete control, spectacular half volley to get a set point and then cashes it in. Nadal has virtually no shot of coming back from 2 sets.

Rafa with the official "No Mas" in that last set. it really feels like the end of an era now.

can anyone stand in the way of a Djoker calendar slam? sure as heck doesn't look that way.

The only player I think that'll take him to the limit at the moment is Stan, but even then...

We should in theory see two calendar slams right? Novak and Serena are competing with themselves mentally more than anything. Both clearly at the top right now. If not for that dip in play in the first set this would have been a complete beatdown.

Rafa now will be ranked 10th or 11th going into Wimbledon. I think Federer probably has a better chance of winning another major than Nadal. And that Djokovic might end up with more majors than both of them. He could easily win another 7-10 majors in the next 3-4 years.

we watched Roger, Rafa and basically every other legend before them hit the wall as they approached 30. unless there's some magical serum in Nole's gluten-free pizza, there's no reason to believe he won't hit it as well.

my prediction would be to peg him for another 4-5 slams, though a couple more than that wouldn't be too surprising. the main thing going against him in the race for Slam King is that he didn't accumulate a big number of them in his early 20's like the other two guys did, so it's a race against the clock that will be difficult to win.

But there is absolutely no competition. I don't think Nishikori, Raonic or anyone else will challenge consistently enough. For every 1 grand slam they get, Djokovic will get 2 or 3.

Yeah Girly nailed the point I was really going for. Yeah when Fed and Nadal reached the end of the prime there was someone there waiting (Nadal after Fed, Djoker after Nadal). If Andy weren't such a headcase I might give him a chance to fill the gap, but he is a major headcase so I can't take him seriously.

Nishikori has great game but not quite at the elite level. Dimitrov looks like a bust at this point. Milos is no threat to Novak. Coric may be the next guy but that still seems like 3-5 years away. Kyrgios, same issue as Murray. Novak is pretty much clear of someone who will definitely push him for the next few years. If he maintains the mental game as he has I think he wins at least 2 a year for the next 3-5 years.

thats what everybody was thinking in 2010 when rafa won 3 slams, djokovic was a headcase, retiring in GS matches, double faulting often… then he rose and took over the circuit.

also, to think that federer is in a better position to win another slam compared to rafa is biased on your part. enjoy this rafa loss but dont underestimate nadal anytime on any surface.

Nadal is physically broken down which is much worse than Federer losing a step or two. Nadal just can't play at the level he needs to to be great without it getting him injured. To stay healthy he needs to play less physical, which of course makes him much less effective. And I don't see a transition to playing a lot more quicker points like Roger made after 30. Just not how he plays his best.

I don't see Rafa winning another major outside clay. Nadal will struggle to maintain a good enough ranking to avoid the types of situations where he draws Novak in the QF's. He's still probably the 2nd best player in the world on clay. But he's probably outside the top 5 choices on grass or hardcourts. Roger still is in the top 5 everywhere outside clay. That said I don't see either winning another major.

One set from the dream Safarova-Bacsinszky final. NBC execs must be on suicide watch. Serena looks very out of it physically.

have two total no-names in the final or Serena show up to hand out the usual bagel/breadstick pummeling. either way, sounds like a great excuse to sleep in on Saturday morning.

Bacsinszky went from up a break in the 2nd to losing 10 straight games and that's that. NBC executives off the ledge.

Wawrinka beats Tsonga to end hopes of a Frenchman in the Final.

Djokovic is currently dismantling Murray. Up two sets quickly.

I love the emotion that The Guardian is trying to evoke in their updates:

Quote:
Third set: Murray 3-6, 3-6, 0-1 Djokovic* (*denotes server): Murray, his shoulders slumped and his face a picture of pure misery, slopes to the baseline. He looks demoralised. Djokovic holds to 30. He’ll want to get this finished quickly. The skies are darkening above the court. Murray should start doing a rain dance. Although rain delays haven’t really worked for British players in the past.
