i think they just were playing it too safe... not sure if it was Cooper or just the inexperience on the ice, preventing the kids from doing 'too' much.
agreed though; thinking you are going to beat Chi 1-0 by going into a shell for half the game is a big miscalculation

If he was "immensely" skilled and agile, he would be the best goalie in NHL history, given the size.  Clearly, he is good, but it is ridiculous that the NHL refuses to account for the fact that a goalie can have his shoulder at the crossbar while kneeling...

He outplayed Carey Price and when it really counted Lundqvist.
Where do you rank him amongst goalies in the playoffs?...
And who handles the puck better than him?

Wasn't this tested by sniper Georgie Parros versus an average sized goalie and versus a sumo sized goalie and was determined it made little difference. Of course being immensely tall is very different than being immensely fat but it may have some validity.

Did he? Maybe, but to me it looked like TB just played great in front of him and he didn't have to. What does puck-handling have to do with it? I just wish the net was a foot higher and a foot wider - this is not about Bishop really.

The 'Hawks withstood the adrenalin filled start by the Bolts, and escaped only down 1-0, after a frigging amazing tip-in. They then settled into their game of shot lane denial, and gradually took over the possession numbers, aided by the Bolts' bad decision that 1-0 would be enough to win because of their goaltender...
The 'Hawks' experience and lower line depth along with the progression of TT at this level, turned the tables, and the Bolts never got their offense going again, when they needed it.

My son hadn't seem the game live, and on my 2nd viewing, I was struck by what I would call a bad habit, by Ben Bishop, of apparently relying completely on his size...I can't recall seeing a goalie so passive, as to seem indifferent to the exact location of the puck, while being screened. More than once, it seemed clear that Bishop made saves while NOT tracking the puck, just letting the puck hit him...The save is great, but, there is NO rebound control when playing this way...on TT's GTG, a screen by our smallish center, Kruger, was enough to allow a shot where Bishop made NO EFFORT TO REACT...call it a "seeing eye" shot, if you like, but an effort to find the puck BEFORE having to fish it out of the net, might allow a shoulder shrug save, or a lucky stick handle save or ANYTHING that might seal the victory...as it was, Bishop was oblivious as the best chance to win game 1 whizzed over his Right Shoulder...
Moreover, a team can use his passivity to create rebound chances...set the screen, let the puck hit Bishop, and go get the inevitable rebound.
I admit, I don't see much of Eastern teams, and don't know if that is the normal way Bishop plays, simply ignoring screens, but, it does seem a weakness, at first impression.

One more thought on Game 1...
My Son, a Desert Dog fan, was wondering how Hjalmarsson is still alive after eating so many hard shots over the course of the year...Defensively, Hammer was heroic yesterday, making play after play in the shooting/passing lanes, yet, he doesn't get a mention on many fan forums...including Chicago ones.

Reports from the Chicago press have Trevor Van Reimsdyk as dressing tonight...Rundblad will sit...
Q showed some confidence in TVR before his fractured patella injury...but, I expect him to be "protected" with limited minutes and a rotating top 4 Partner, the same way Rundblad, Cumiskey, and Timonen have been...at least, until he can prove that he is up to game speed.

The Lightning definitely learned a lesson to not play hang on with the Blackhawks. The Lightning lost their electrical charge as the third period progressed. The Blackhawks silently crept up and scored quickly.
