I will venture to guess that an actual new arena announcement won't be made before Ken King's Calgary Flames tenure is over (fired/quit/retirement)

Seems reasonable that if the City is seeking public input before making a decision on their involvement that it would be in everyone's best interest to show off a few swanky renderings to show the public exactly what is on the table. I think we should all see something soon. I find it interesting that last year Nenshi was completely opposed to any public contribution but since the meeting with Ken King, Nenshi is now ready to consider the option. The proposal must be awesome.
Season ticket holder meeting's are next week and I am looking forward to an update from the team.

I can save you some waiting. Here is what they'll say:
- The scope of the protect is very large
- They are very excited about the plans
- A project of this size has a lot of 'T's to cross and 'I's to dot
- They expect to make a more formal announcement soon

They won't do or say a thing until they figure out who these New Democrats are. I have no doubt they'd approached Prentice or someone in his government and gad some sort of arrangement. Who knows now what the lay of the land is provincially?

Sent to me by a coworker.
There is an RFQ for cleanup of the WV posted to the Governments website. It closes on the 16th.

Don't forget - Lots of moving parts
- This project will transform the city and be unlike anything else that we've seen in North America.

What it does show though is that something is happening with the West Village.
Whether it be for the Flames or for the city, things are - at least - moving forward, and that will provide more clarity to the arena project.
Besides, as CMLC is the company doing the work for the East village, they probably have the pieces to reach out for a RFQ. I don't think that CMLC made the request points one way or the other.

I don't think you can draw this conclusion from this. Actually the only conclusion we could draw would be that something's happening. The Flames could be involved in the long term plan or not but it wouldn't be the Flames doing RFPs etc.
Why is it residential or arena? It's going to be mixed use - retail, residential and possible arena.

It can be mixed use, but if CLMC is involved, most likely will not include an arena. They want to make the area similar to what is happening in East village.
This is the original proposal for west village in 2010.

Ya I've seen that. I just don't think you can conclude that an arena is not involved because the city development organization is asking for proposals to clean up the site. Yes the concept in 2010 didn't include an arena but doesn't mean it can't now.

or the CMLC is paying for the clean up and then gifting at least part of the land to the Flames?
The arena may not be the entire scope of the project... In fact I doubt it is.

The more I look at that West village, the more I think there's no way in hell they are going to fit a rink, a stadium, a parking complex and some type of entertainment square/district. They'd be hard pressed to fit a rink and stadium with no parking.
