If the Yotes take Hanifin then I could see them shopping Gormley for a forward

Gormley hasn't exactly progressed the way they expected, so value is probably close.

I disagree, Gormley has been fine, he was just young and buried in the depth chart. In no way does Granlund get you Gormley.

Exactly. Gormley hasn't exactly lived up to that draft position yet and Granlund has been excellent in the AHL thus far in his early career.
They definitely have close value, maybe add a 4th going to AZ

Ask an Arizona fan (if you can find one ). He isn't nearly as highly regarded as he was a few years ago.

Well 2 problems that cover your butt.. You mention 1 in ask a yotes fan.. G'luck...
2nd... Ask a fan period... Cause a fan knows how a organization values their players and depth...
Logic says Gormley is stepping into the lineup next year and since both Yandle and Schlemko were moved, I think its obvious that he's staying in AZ unless a better offer than Granlund comes... They have Domi coming in soon too.. I don't know if Granlund fits their rebuild plan.

I'm not big on Gormley. I would be okay with a straight across swap for say Granlund but I wouldn't pay more. He's had ample opportunity to crack that lineup and hasn't been good enough.

Granlund doesn't get much credit around here. I think he's underrated by Flames fans.
I still feel he will be better than his brother, who for whatever reason has insane amounts of hype.

It's not just "hype". Mikael is a great young player that's had some injury issues. 41 points in 63 games in 2013-14. If he can stay healthy he's going to be a fantastic player.

Gormley hasn't been able to break into one of the worst defensive groups in the league. The coach there also isn't a bonehead defensively speaking.
He's a project prospect nearing reclamation project at this stage.

Yandle wasn't moved to make room for Gormley imo. In fact they play completely different styles and the Coyotes acquired John Moore from the Rangers hoping to replace Yandle's puck moving ability. The guys Gormley needed to beat out in the last couple of years are guys like Michalek, Summers, and Schlemko. He wasn't able to do that and maybe next year is different but I am not too excited about his progress thus far. That said, I am not sure that Granlund is really the type of asset the Coyotes are looking to add either. Value wise though I don't see Gormley being too much more than Granlund.

The Coyotes only have OEL, Stone and Murphy as signed defenceman next season.
RFAs are Moore, Dahlbeck and Gormley. Looking at AHL depth maybe next guy is P. Samuelson?
You have to figure they sign or acquire a veteran d-man to help that group out. Maybe take Grossman off Philly's hands
If I am not mistaken everyone is waiver eligible next season except Murphy.
Coyotes will also probably be bottom of the league next year and I think they will throw Gormley into the deep end next season and see if he will sink or swim.
Projected top 7
OEL - Stone
veteran signing or trade -Murphy
Moore - Dahlbeck/Gormley

We gotta upgrade the middle pairing if we really want to take a step forward next season.
Personally, I think Kris Russell is horrible and was very underwhelming this season.

Guy is seriously a bum. 100% serious. Y'all think he's great because we've been forced to watch even worse defenders throughout these difficult years.
He's not a great skater, Not great on the boards, constantly ices the puck and is hemmed in his own zone for long periods of times multiple times per game. His advanced statistics are dreadful. I also hate how terribly he plays attacking forwards on the rush, he just continues to back up and allows the forward to rip a dangerous shot on goal every time.
Positives for him is that he blocks an insane amount of shots and has a decent breakout pass.
Now, while I do think he is overrated, I still think he's an excellent bottom pairing d-man. We would definitely need to upgrade him though if we even dare to imagine competing with the Ducks or Hawks.

Glo Boyz is actually partially correct in that both Russell Wideman are not good #3/4 defensemen, although they were awesome this season, especially when Gio went down.
If you look at the advanced stats, they have significant deficiencies in their own zone. (shots allowed, shot attempts, possession)
While both of them contributed significantly on the offensive side of things, they were not very good on the defensive side for a team that is trying to become a cup contender. I would not rush either of them out the door, but I would also try very hard to find an upgrade somewhere for each of them.
If you look at Tampa, their defense in 2013-14 was
Hedman-Carle
Gudas-Salo
Brewer-Sustr
5 different players
This year it's
Hedman-Stralman
Garrison-Carle
Sustr-Nesterov/Coburn/Barbeiro
If the Flames can find players that are better overall players than Russell and Wideman, they should.

Where do they find those guys though, and to get them, what is the acquisition cost going to look like?
