I don't understand the conspirancy theory on why Hartley did not play Drew Shore more. Players need to earn the ice time and as far as I can see Shore really did not show much whenever he plays except that one game in the playoff. The only way I can see Drew Shore making this team is if he adds scoring goals. He is not bad defensively and his faceoff was okay but we already have Josh Jooris who can do those. I see him playing in the AHL next season if he doesn't add goal scoring in his forte. I won't lose any sleep if someone picks him up on waiver but I doubt someone will.
Whereas last year we had very little depth on RW and were willing to try a reclamation project in Setoguchi -- next year we'll have a lot more guys vying for a spot on RW.
Hudler, Colborne, Jones, Joories, Poirier, Shore, Klimchuk, etc.
A number of those guys are playing their off-wing, so perhaps they switch back to their natural LW which then makes the depth situation there tricky as well.
Shore being able to line up a C and RW and being a right handed shot gives him a bit of an advantage over guys like Poirier and Klimchuk. Although it appears the latter two are rather adept on their off-wing and Hudler is as well obviously.
Does anyone know if Shore has any conditioning issues? He's undoubtedly an upgrade over Knight.

I think Shore looked really good in my limited viewings of him.
There are many potentially perfectly valid reasons why Shore may not have seen the usage that many of us think he warranted.
But I also think Bob Hartley plays favourites, in a very big way. He's a good coach, but nobody is perfect. Sure, "He's an NHL head coach", but so too is Deryk Engelland an NHL player, and we have no difficulty discussing his deficiencies at this level. And if I had to point out one weakness I see in Hartley as a coach, that would be it.
So yeah, it's entirely possible that Shore got limited usage because Hartley wanted to stick with the winning formula that got them there. Or some other perfectly valid and not concerning reason. But I also think it's entirely possible that Hartley just didn't like Shore's sideburns.
We'll have to wait and see how things play out.

I wouldnt read into his ice-time too much. He's learning the system and being eased into the lineup. He didnt get his chance earlier in the season like Granlund and Ferland to learn the system, playoff hockey is hard to play without knowing your defensive responsibilities. Bennett had the opportunity to watch the Flames system all season long so it was easier for him to slide in during the playoffs

I think some people forget that Engelland was supposed to be a plug on RW if necessary. That's a pretty weird and scary thought too.

If you believe Treliving then there were a couple of teams looking to trade for him at the deadline, you'd think that would make is unlikely for him to clear waivers.

Which conversely makes him hard to trade, since many teams who need a guy like that will just wait to see if he pops up on waivers. I suppose a higher team might give a late pick to lock him up.
I see shore as a potential David Jones replacement. Plays a similar style with more skill. I would like to see Hunter Smith make the jump this year and play a bottom 6 role to get his feet wet. The way Johnny played with Hayes it seems like he might be a long term fit there and Johnny plays really well with a big guy on his line.
I see our RW depth as this right now:
Hudler
Jones
Shore
Poirer
I would like to see:
Hudler
Poirer
Shore
Smith
David Jones can be traded if anyone will take him. It's a young group minus Hudler but that seems to be the way the NHL is trending.

That would be pretty great since Jones in his prime was a good producer (from ages 25-27).

I'd rather see what he can do with more games.
Lots of teams looking to trade for a guy makes him hard to trade?
I would think rather the opposite is true.

He most certainly would get picked up on waivers as according to Treliving Shore was the player the Flames fielded the most calls about at the deadline.

Really? How do you know this?
I am not disputing the guy have talent and I am hoping that suddenly he becomes another Jooris that surprises a lot of people with scoring touch. As I was saying before, we have a few similar players with Drew Shore and if he can add goal scoring on his arsenal then the chances of him making the lineup is far greater. It would great because he's got the size, he can be a good faceoff man, play well defensively but he's not going to make the team alone because he needs to clear waiver in order to be sent down. If he can't make it on his own then I hope the Flames can get something for him in return.

I think Shore, if he makes the club, will bump a guy like Jooris. If you get similar production from Shore, his size will be the determining factor. Burke reiterated again just a couple days ago on the radio how much this team needs to get bigger (and it does) and those are the types of moves that can help expedite the growth. (literally and figuratively)
He looked good in spurts, but often looked like a guy who was trying to adjust to a new team, new city and the NHL all at the same time.
I don't believe for a second that Hartley doesn't like Shore. I think he used him as much as was justified - it's not like we lost to the Ducks because Drew Shore didn't get his minutes.
He's big, he's got some skill, some wheels, and he can play centre if necessary. someone you want to keep around.

He has some sweet hands and we haven't really seen a lot of that in his limited time.
Hopefully he makes the most of the opportunity next season and we start to see flashes of this.
To be fair, 98/100 times that move doesn't work in the NHL. It looked great, but if you watch just the defenseman, it was basically just horrid defending.
