Hawks have to move Bickell, Sharp and Versteeg then they get under the cap. Hawks have defense prospect and maybe if flames take Bickell and Pokka or Rundblad or van riemsdyk. Bickell contract is terrible but good Defense prospect sweetens the pot. Like the Richards deal where Flames would have taken Richards if Tyler Toffoli comes with him.
I hope that flames donīt try to speed up the rebuild and trade for short contract.

Better chance of getting Seabrook.

Have to have some veterans. If we can add a bigger more physical guy like sharp than it gives the flames more leverage to move a guy like Hudler to acquire youth/picks. I think Sharp would be a good fit as someone who has been on championship teams in the past.

Agreed, except it will take youth/picks to acquire Sharp.

If it means getting Sharp I don't see why we couldn't take Versteeg as well in the trade (as another cap dump). Sure he may not make the lineup every day, but he'd be a decent fill-in when injuries occur. He only has one year left on his contract, so that's a non issue for the Flames cap situation.

Sharp and Versteeg for a second rounder, a lower tier prospect (like Reinhart, or maybe Granlund), plus a depth player if need be.

Had they both played full seasons that's an extra 50 goals right there without moving anyone off the roster. Plus they both have cup winning experience; and Sharp alone would net a decent return if he's traded again the next season as a pending UFA.

This is the one move I hope Treliving makes in the off-season.

Saad is not available. They will buy out guys before letting him go because of cap reasons.

I'm not convinced we're a better team if we add Sharp and subtract Hudler.

Especially considering we're likely giving up more to get Sharp then we'll receive for Hudler, imo. So basically a great vet with proven dynamite chemistry within our team and system gone, then we give up youth and picks to bring in Sharp? Big no from me.

Sharp is one of those players that's going to create a lot of buzz around the league if he's available and likely bring a very good return for Chicago considering his age.

I'd like either Saad or Beleski. Beleski is younger and bigger, I believe. It'll also be nice to get Williams from the Kings through free agency.

Shaw's kind of smallish even though he's feisty. Flames have too many feisty small guys already. If they can get ride of Raymond for Shaw, that'd be awesome!

A draft is still a huge crap shoot though. Even the 2003 draft, which was probably one of the top 2 or 3 ever when it came to depth, still had around a 50-55% bust rate in the 2nd round. I doubt the 2015 draft has so much depth that trading at least one of those 2nd round picks for a proven young player like Saad would be anything but a good thing for us.

In fact, it would likely take a lot more than that.

Beleski is going to get an arm and a leg and possibly a free extra liver in the UFA market. He'd be grossly overpaid.

Yes on Saad but it isn't happening. No thanks on Sharp unless he comes cheap which I don't think he will.

Does anyone have any insight into why Saad dropped so far? Going into the draft, he was the 19th ranked North American skater by CSS, and TSN's scout poll had him ranked 22nd.

I had assumed that he was just one of those guys who upped his game to a new level after he was drafted, so it surprised me when I saw he was actually rated so highly.

Sharp's 2 years older than Hudler, would cost more than what Hudler gets in a trade, and would not be around for the upcoming glory years. Sharp makes $5.9 for two more years (35!!). Hudler makes $4 now and next year and I bet he could be re-signed for a reasonable price after that (he knows a good situation when he sees it) and if he doesn't would be a great deadline trade bait.

Plus there's the chemistry Hudler has with Mo and Gau.

Like many have said, I don't see Saad being moved.

Would love Sharp, but not for what it would cost to get him. That is exactly the kind of trade Treliving has talked about staying away from.

Flames are not a Cup contender yet, and aren't a "Patrick Sharp" away from being one either. Would make no sense to trade away young assets to acquire a Sharp type player, when by the time we are actually a contender, that Sharp type player would likely be too old be of much help anymore.
