Okay, you're not completely out to lunch. I think it's really gross when somebody walks around my house in bare beet as well. I would prefer they bring a pair of socks to put on, but that's not going to happen so I try not to worry about it.
My preference is socks. Nobody wears them more than one day without washing them, so they are clean. They can't scratch my floor and they won't have gum/bug guts/tar/oil/grass/leaves/etc. on them, either (unlike shoes).
We wash our floors on a regular enough basis that I'm not bothered by sweaty sock feet. That I can clean. I can't mop away scratches and nicks from shoes, though. Plus I highly doubt everybody has non-marking soles.
I know other parts of the world don't take their shoes off in the house. In other parts of the world they also wipe their ass with their bare hand. We're a particularly clean people, here.
My hardwood is from 1969 - I refinished it for the first time in its life six years ago. It looks absolutely brand new. If people had been tromping around my house in shoes for the last 45 years, the hardwood would be a complete disaster. I know this because when you go into a house where people wear shoes around all the time their hardwood looks terrible.

I don't tip: Bar staff, delivery drivers, baristas, anyone else. And most importantly, I don't tip the beer tub girls at stampede.

So why the imaginary line? You'll tip someone who will do nothing but bring your food to a table in a place you drive to, but won't tip someone who brings your food to your table in your house? Why? Because they bring you a drink? Why not bar staff? They bring you drinks. Batistas take the time to concoct fairly complicated drinks, tailored to your taste. Batistas also serve you food.
Wait staff simply bring you food at an establishment you go to. Everyone else does more.

Probably won't make a difference to you but just letting you know the reality of the industry.

I mostly order from BP's and they charge a $6 delivery fee. I don't feel the need to pay more than that to deliver a pizza 10 blocks.

Because wait staff bring you food, drinks, refills, menus, etc etc. I am tipping for the level of service provided.

For a Barista I order a drink you stand there and make it and give it to me. There is no level of service. You can't be terrible or really good at putting coffee in a cup.
For a bar tender I walk up and say "Ill take a keiths" he grabs a bottle opens it and gives it to me.
Does that little interaction really deserve more than the $6 I am likely paying for it? No.

Based off this thread alone, this statement is probably a huge assumption on your part.
But it is a nice segue to a comment about the grown man who once told me he still does the "flip underwear front to back to get two days out of them". It raises two points, 1) who actually does this, it's gross and 2) why do you feel that, as a grown man, this is a good idea for a conversation starter?

Maybe. But then why persist with the shoe removal in the summer? And there are places that most certainly get lots of rain and even snow (the UK, the Netherlands, Michigan) where it's not traditional to take off shoes when you enter a house. That's what doormats are for - wiping off your shoes.
I think it really is an irrational taboo at this point, a legacy of Canadians' grandparents slopping through slushy farms and unpaved sidewalks in work-boots.
And in the handful of other countries where removing shoes is the norm, they usually provide slippers at the door for guests. So maybe we're not as considerate as we like to think.

I think it's more because who wants to wear damned foot prisons in the house?

The way you brushed aside what a bar tender and or barrister does can easily be done with a waiter as well.
"There is no level of service with wait staff, all they do is bring items from place A to place B".
If you tip based on level of service walk back into the kitchen and ask who made your meal and who washed your dishes, then make it rain.

I broke a metatarsal a while back, so understand the comfort argument from that perspective, but taking your shoes off at home is just so great. Cools your feet down and feels comfortable.

No level of service? You are literally paying someone to make you a drink. No level of service would be paying to get behind the counter and make your own drink. I used to work as a barista for a few years and I hated when people wouldn't throw a quarter or something in my cup. I made minimum wage, and relied on tips to survive. Don't want to throw a tip in my jar? Go somewhere else for your coffee, or make it at home. I won't say anything outright, unless you mention something about not being worth a tip. Otherwise I'll just smile and make your drink and secretly hate you. Oh, what's that? You asked for 182°? Yeah, your milk is getting steamed to 192°. There's a warning on your cup that prevents you from suing me, so have fun with your 1st degree burn in your mouth.
We provide more of a service than wait staff do, but apparently deserve less. Your argument is you have to wait in line, but when you order food at a restaurant you have to wait to eat. Do you not like standing while waiting? Is that where we are going to draw your make-believe line in the sand?

Cheap tippers are simply cheapskates, they are deplorable specimens that are so obsessed with saving pennies that they typically trip over the dollars in life. We had a buddy who would always rush to pay at the pub before everyone, it was evident after a while what he was doing. Magically he wasn't our friend anymore. Anyone who looks down at waitstaff, delivery drivers, baristas ect and justifies stiffing them out of a couple bucks is a loser.

You may feel it doesn't deserve more, but when I bartended and I knew one guy didn't tip, that was the last guy who I'd pay attention to. The guy who tips me every time? I'll see him three rows deep and he's getting his drinks over top of everyone else. The waitress who tips out properly, and maybe a little more is getting her drinks before the waitress who doesn't feel the need to tip out the 1%.

I am paying you to put coffee in a cup because you don't have the coffee dispensers out like other places. I don't buy lattes or any of that crap.
You putting coffee in a cup isn't worth anything to me. Sorry to let you know. I'm going to sleep perfectly fine knowing this.

When you don't tip, other people are subsidizing the artificially low cost of the product or service for you.
