For the first time in my life that I can remember, Canadian soldiers are getting killed somewhat regularly...I don't know what to say about it anymore. On one hand, I hate seeing it of course, but on the other hand, I know this is a vital mission.

I give my condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers.
The mission is of the outmost importance but it is a tragedy every time we lose a solider, let alone four in one day in three separate engagements.

Terrible news. Thankfully it seems a lot of progress is being made so the losses are not in vain. I am proud of our troops over there.

Those new G-Wagons are amazing. Not sure about the armour on them though.

It's a Benz SUV.. and from the looks of it, doesn't look like it has much armour. The Hummer H1's are built to survive a direct landmine attack. Now, RPG, and IED's are another question.
It doesn't look like the G Wagon could survive a landmine.. but then looks can be deceiving.

We need to get serious about securing and rebuilding Afghanistan, instead of paying lip-service to the idea while our boys are needlessly coming home in bodybags.

What exactly do you think Canada should do? Expand operations even more?

Personally, I think canada should withdraw if the necessary support can't be mustered. There's no use in fighting a losing battle if you don't have to. A full-scale force of diverse nations is needed on the ground to establish order, real, sustainable order. Not buying off warlords to help fight the taliban.

I doubt that more troops would do 'anything' to speed up the process.
You see, the thing is we only hear about the Canadian soldiers being killed, so we think they're dying for a lost cause. It would be helpful if the media reported some of the progress being made in Afghanistan....

Really?
You don't think a larger contingent of troops would be able to search and secure a vast swath of land faster and more efficiently than a small force? Thanks for your input, Captain Kangaroo.

Just put him on your ignore list already. He only seems to detract from the discussion, I've had to move him there myself.

So you think sending 300,000 troops to Afghanistan would solve the problem?
How many troops did the Soviets try to send there? How many did the US send to Vietnam?
Simply sending more troops isn't going to solve anything.
But hey, put me on your ignore list for disagreeing that sending more troops would solve the problem. Nice to see that people are willing to hear a different opinion.
