I really disagree with SebC's plan about keeping the posting down. We get even less information than normal this game, because we won't be able to analyze night kills. So it's important that we have a reasonable posting/voting history for each player so we can go back and check for changes/inconsistencies/people acting in concert later in the game. That will be how we catch the scum.
One way to effectively get this to happen is to get votes on people, as they almost always will defend themselves, and start posting more and posting in greater detail. As an example, see what happened with dissentowner above. While something about his posting style this game seems off to me, I'm not ready to say I think he's definitely scum yet, and we have until tomorrow until we need to get a lynch in.
However, getting a couple votes on a few inactive posters to see what they say is valuable. And activestick has only 4 posts, two of which are "it's too early to have any information but guessing" type posts, one is a "rules of the game" type, and one is a quick vote for girlysports. I'd like to see more from him/her, as one of the reasons its too early for anything but guessing is that we have some posters who aren't very active.

I agree with this. Don't want it to come down to the wire and have people making panic votes right against the deadline.
Get some votes out there, put your reasoning behind them and lets get some discussion going.
SebC and Party are at the top of my suspicious list at the moment. Lego is up there too. Squiggs I have a weird feeling about, but I am leaning town. Everyone else I'm pretty neutral on.

Unfortunately, I probably am reading into this comment too much but I get the feeling that Timbo was choosing his words very carefully.
He wants us to know where he got the information from, and despite just saying he read the rules he wants to be clear it's "AFAIK" that the Captain can only say 30 words. It's almost like he wants to be clear he doesn't know something we don't know.
Also, could be that Second in Command had been used in the mafia thread enough that they had to shorten it to 2IC.

Vote: Timbo
I'd also be fine voting out inactive players, as always.

I appreciate the response, Party. However, I still get that feeling where you are a new player and have no experience, so drawing a Mafia card in the first game would be intimidating and as a result you are just trying to avoid making waves.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but responding to my post so quickly just makes me feel like you are constantly monitoring the thread, but not really posting much unless you are specifically mentioned. This has happened twice now. First with GGGs vote against you, you were able to respond in just a few minutes, and then after my post last night, you were able to respond in about an hour. It just seems so lurky to me.
Vote: Party Elephant

It's interesting to see the differences in responses once a vote is cast against a player.
The two extremes are:
activeStick - Did not even acknowledge either vote (squiggs96, bizaro86).
Party Elephant - Sees the vote (GGG) and revenge votes right away. Comes back with a more thought out response after the 2nd vote (GirlySports), but this attracts a 3rd vote (mrkajz44).
In between those two you those that address the votes including myself, dissentowner, and bizaro86, and a few such as GGG and ECF that continue to post, but don't bring up the votes against them. Some feel slighted, while others are either confident players or experienced enough they know how to handle a vote against.

This comment makes me think Timbo is a passenger. I've been thinking about it and I can't come up with a reason a host would ask this question.

The obvious reason a host would ask is to try and beat the smuggler at game theory. If everyone thinks the host will pick a strong player, the smuggler will hide a strong player, which reduces the value to the host of the spore. However, if the host knows that, they can then pick a weak/inactive player, which would help their numbers.
I'm not saying Timbo's host, (he could just as easily be the smuggler looking for help, or a passenger trying to generate conversation/ideas) but I wouldn't exclude him as host based on that comment.

There was no talk about who would you give the spore to before that, so it would be a bad play by the hosts to start drumming up that conversation and get people thinking about it.

The Scum could have been trying to lead us to a conclusion that they gave it to a known strong player so we would vote out a known strong player.

I'm not saying it's an obvious killer strategy for the scum, just that it's possible, and I wouldn't eliminate Timbo from contention as a host based off that one comment.

I can't see it with the way this game is currently going, no one is posting. You and I both know from last game when no one was posting we were more than happy to sit in the weeds and let time drag on.

I'm not saying it guarantees he is a passenger either, I'm just saying that for now it makes me look elsewhere.

Again, notice how he puts "interesting(open) question" so no one could accuse him of suggesting anything, after all he's just asking an open question.
I think Timbo is being a lot more careful in his wording this time around. I don't necessarily disagree with what he's saying, and this could easily be a case of looking way too deep into things, but how he's wording it just seems way too carefully chosen. A bit of a contrast to his previous game's almost 'care-free' posting style.

I really think this is a huge problem this game. The host can just blend into the background as part of the "nobody else was posting" and "SebC said not to post a bunch of noise" group. Then we have nothing to go on, and every day just ends up being a copy of the typical day 1: nothing to go on, so vote out the inactives. That will lead to a guaranteed scum win.

I don't think the smuggler has a chance to hide a player on night 0.
That's why I bring up that question.
BTW in the Mafia thread we prefer to address the spore as "The Salami"
My 2IC wanted to call it "The Pickle" but we got into all that Kosher vs Gerkin argument
Our InGinEar wanted to call it "The Buck" as in pass the buck. Sheesh InGinEars have no sense of haha.
I used my power of veto and we now will "slip the salami" to some poor unsuspecting passenger.

One problem with this set up is that we don't get additional info in the night phase from kills. We get our lynch, and a 50/50 chance of finding who the spore was passed to. We need to generate discussion ourselves and thus far we aren't doing enough. So yes in a game where the town can only win by forcing people to have a discussion I will steer people into having discussions and putting votes on record.
We need to have everyone vote for someone by the end of today. On day 1 you don't need a good reason.

Hopefully after this first lynch people will be more active when we have some more information to bat around.

So it looks like things are starting to quiet down. Time definitely isn't on our side here and I would suggest some folks start picking things up a bit. We don't want to be scrambling as the clock ticks down on us tomorrow night and we end up with a worst case scenario of no lynch.
By my count we are at:
-3 votes on Party
-2 votes on Active
-7 of us with one vote
That leaves 5 without a vote.

Tough getting a read on people so far. With Party Elephant, I'd attribute the revenge vote and his earlier posts to being an inexperienced player. Lean towards him being town though. I'm suspicious of Timbo and SebC. Not really sure about GGG and East Coast Flame about their "we need to get a vote tonight!" rush ... of course we shouldn't leave it till the last minute, but we still have 30 hours left. No posts in this thread since two days. Lego Man hasn't done much at all. GirlySports had some great input early on, but went missing lately. No posts in here for two days. So therefore:
vote GirlySports
