If there were no oceans, there would be no weather, and the world would be impossibly hot for life?

Max is an empty vessel that that the film flows through. He is an incidental person who good at killing/not dying and nothing else. The Mad Max films (all 4) aren't carried by Max at all. He's a bland man in an exciting world. Max is there for the audience to project themselves into because he's a blank slate.

The movies are less "Mad Max doing stuff" and more "Mad Max not dying and watching other people do stuff". This is nothing new, and I'm not sure why people are surprised by this.

Mad Max is the Australian Littlest Hobo.

Because that's what Max does????

Last line of the plot summary from Mad Max:
Now a shell of his former self, Max drives on to points unknown, pushing deep into the Outback.

Last line of the plot summary from Road Warrior:
Max remains alone in the desert, once again becoming a drifter. Years later, the Feral Kid, now the Northern Tribe's new leader (voice by Harold Baigent), reminisces about the legend of the mythical "Road Warrior" (Max) who now exists only in distant memory.

Last line of the plot summary from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome:
Still alive in the desert, Max wanders on to places unknown

You don't have to get so worked up Andy Dufresne.

Where did you come from? Where did you go? Where did you come from Immortan Joe?

It wasn't 160 days to cross, it was how long they could travel before running out of supplies. With how barren the world was and the fact that they called it salt flats I think it was meant for us to assume the oceans had dried up

I interpreted it as the salt plains being the dried up Pacific Ocean. They had supplies for 160 days if they were to cross it; presumably to hit, in theory, South America or Central America.

Furiosa's 'green land' was the eastern edge of Australia.

That makes some sense. Perth to Durban is about 8,000 km. Sydney to Santiago is 11,000 km.

Except, I don't think there could be any life on earth without oceans.

That is Mad Max. He wanders into someone else's problem, helps them out and then heads back into the desert alone.

Maybe not dried up all the way?

It really seemed like they had no clue how long they would have to travel before hitting anything.

The whole world of Mad Max falls apart pretty quickly with any kind of scrutiny. It's best to just not think about it

That's what Mad Max does. If we see a 5th movie it will randomly pick up on Max again and end with him fading.

I'm not familiar with Mad Max as a series, but can somebody tell me (or point me in the direction( what people like Nux are and why he was taking blood from Max?

There are all sorts of little nuances about the world being radioactive/toxic and you'll notice that people who are higher in status get things like oxygen tanks (i.e. Immortan Joe and Rictus) so they can keep being healthier. Other people end up getting sick with various maladies and Nux is one of them. He's got at least a couple tumours and the blood is basically to treat his illnesses and probably rehydrate a bit. You maybe missed it too, but Max is tattooed as O-type blood, which is the universal donor.

Loved the movie. Nonstop amazing action.

Thought this deserved to be added to the thread. Nice glimpse behind the scenes at the incredible stunts and practical effects used. Gives you a better appreciation for them.

Not in the original, he had an identity and a personal story. The new one he had a daughter and that was it, we never learned anything about him. The original the Earth wasn't scorched desert either. This new Mad Max had very little similarity to the old one.

This world puts me in mind of Gamma World:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_World

Gamma World is a science fantasy role-playing game, originally designed by James M. Ward and Gary Jaquet, and first published by TSR in 1978. It borrowed heavily from James M. Ward's earlier product, Metamorphosis Alpha.

Gamma World takes place in the mid-25th century, more than a century after a second nuclear war had destroyed human civilization. The game's designers took inspiration from the post-apocalyptic novels and movies of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s; the first edition rules cite Brian Aldiss's Hothouse, Andre Norton's Star Man's Son (also published as Daybreak - 2250 A.D.), Sterling E. Lanier's Hiero's Journey, and Ralph Bakshi's Wizards.

Seen the movie and enjoyed it, however I know next to nothing about the previous films so some stuff didn't add up for me. What was the silver stuff they were spraying in their mouths?
