Fair enough, I usually skim Francis' crap, so didn't get a full view of this particular article. You are right. Though my general point stands on how it is gutless to trash a kid to criticize Feaster. At least echo what Feaster says other teams have told him about Jankowski.

For what it's worth, John Shannon was hosting Prime Time Sports and said he was told by several teams that they were looking at Jankowski as a first pick and that Calgary was luck to get him when they did.

That's fine, but if you read other teams market writers, most do the same thing. It's the nature of the business. He is not lying, the editor has to check his sources.

Also their is nothing wrong with the agents comments. I am sure other agents feel the same way about other players picked for other teams.

Francis needs to put out articles that don't pull the Calgary line and strike a controversial tone. He's trying to establish himself on the national level and being a homer would only hurt those chances. These articles are all well scripted and timed to pump up his career...nothing more, nothing less

There'd hardly be any stories in the paper if journalists weren't allowed to quote "anonymous" scources. It doesn't mean they don't exist or that Francis made it up. It just means that the scource values his or her privacy for whatever reason.

But this is all Francis does. He never puts a face to a quote.

Based on everything everyone who knows his uncle (scout for the Habs) and grandfather (long time NHL scout) has said, it's the anglicized pronunciation. I haven't heard anyone pronounce it the Polish way.
Considering that Feaster and the team obviously went out of their way to get the spelling and pronunciation of Baertschi correct last year, I'm sure if it was Yanko we'd have heard it.

Coming back to this thread three years later, when the Flames are back in the playoffs, Gaudreau is an NHLer, Collberg is a fringe AHLer, Teravainen only has 9 pts in 37 games, and Jankowski's an NCAA champion who was one of three forwards named to the All-Tournament Team?
Glorious. And I just did it to dig up the weisbrod quote on two other teams having their eyes on him in the first round.

That's a good point. It's still early of course and he's still got a long way to go but he's looking better and better these days.

seriously?
I'll take TT every day of the week 3 years on, its becoming more apparent that calgary took a huge risk on a CDN HS project instead of guys that have been playing regularly in the NHL the past couple of years.

Fair enough, but this story has far from completely unfolded. Teravainen is going to be a good one I think. Bu Jankowski is just now only starting to hit his stride.
We'll see. I am more confident now that Jankowski is going to be a good NHL'er than I ever was. The poise and straight up studlyness he displayed during the NCAA frozen four was remarkable. Kid performed under pressure. And thats a great sign.

agreed with the performance at the Frozen Four.
While the chances of him becoming "a bigger johnny gaudreau" are fading, he might be able to offer up other skills that would earn him a role in the NHL...which was something i wasn't particularly confident in earlier in the NCAA season...
i think the biggest question is whether he's going to be a tweener: not elite enough to be a scorer, but not enough jamb to run top checking line center minutes.

It's a marathon not a sprint when developing. Jankowski may not hit that ceiling that Feaster and co thanought he was capable. With our current group of prospects he is developing into that perfect 3rd line center ala Backland with size. In a few years I get gitty thinking about a 3rd line of Hunter Smith, Mark Jankowski, and Morgan Klimchuk. Big, smart, and skilled.

How do we see him projecting at this rate? I don't watch many of his games, would Colborne be a fair comparable?

Colborne is a good comparison but I think he'll be better. He's fantastic in the faceoff dot and an excellent two-way player. Very good defensive skills. If anyone watched the NCAA finals they saw just how good his positioning and stick works is. Very smart player.
With Monahan and Bennett as our number one and number two centers Jankowski could be the perfect compliment to those guys.

he's just under a year older than hunter smith (2014 pick), it seems like he's been around forever but he is just 20. I could see him putting it all together in a couple years, although losing maata hurts i think jank was a decent pick.

Other than his good face off stats he hasn't shown anything comparable to Colborne yet. His NCAA tournament games were good and if he can show a more consistent physical game, we may have a player.

Jankowski's Frozen 4 performances were a pleasant surprise.
I think he could turn into a solid NHLer still, the type we actually need: a 2-way faceoff specialist centre with size.size
Hope he continues to develop and makes a push in the next 2 years!
