If we assume that scum would not do scummy things, then everything becomes WIFOM. Noise.

Ultimately everything everyone says could become WIFOM. Like the "vanilla" comment. I think sometimes you just have to go with your gut.

I think consistency of behaviour is key in a game where people switch sides.

This is good. It catches people in lies. But that was my downfall last game. And I was a good guy!

The weekend always seems to throw a kink into this game as everyone is (understandably) enjoying themselves, especially with the beautiful weather. The flip side to that is it makes it easy for the scum to lie in the weeds and wait because the total post count is just so low. Deadline is still not until Tuesday night, so I might wait out the weekend to see a bit more activity, specifically from low posters.
Agreed with Puxlut on the whole gut feeling thing. I think I got really caught up in the last game trying to dissect everything too much. With the whole "turned" thing going on, spotting a change in posting style could be a huge hint.
Maz, you might want to edit your first post for day 1 - it still says deadline is Thursday, but you moved it back to Tuesday in a later post. Just want to make sure everyone is on the same page and the Tuesday deadline doesn't sneak up on anyone using the first post as guidance.

Do one of the Hosts start off as a passenger and switch sides like the Turned? Is the initial list missing one person? Am I doing math wrong?
I see that the OP states there are 14 innocent passengers. Is one of the Agent, the Smuggler or the Anomaly not an innocent passenger?

Something about this still rubs me weird, it seems a little too forced. 12 of Us are vanilla, 3 of you are passengers with special powers. Also why assume the hosts would start as a passenger and then switch sides?

mrkjz then comments that activestick has 1 post but it seemed game related, then squiggs comes up with this reason to vote for activestick.
Honestly I am probably wrong, since the odds of lynching a host aren't in our favour but we have to start somewhere.

I don't get why Seb would have only selected the first sentence in my first post, since the second sentence goes with the first. The only breadcrumb was me stating my vanilla position. This has been pointed out by me already.

Once again, this has already been answered. Reread where my post where I detailed my thoughts: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthr...95#post5307995. I find something that doesn't make sense to me. I give my rationale. It turns out it was a math error from Mazrim, and now you want to put that on me because of how I thought? When trying to figure out how this game works I find something that doesn't make sense to me. Not every thought you have in this game is correct, but not having the correct thought doesn't make me mafia. That's ridiculous. By ending it with the 'cover your ass' statement of "Honestly I am probably wrong" is slimy too. That phrase is a classic game move that allows you to never remain guilty when things go wrong. I guess it wouldn't be a mafia game without you and GGG coming at me for ridiculous and/or made up things to paint me in a poor light. It worked for you last time, so I don't blame you for continuing the schtick. You say it's forced, but when you don't get a hugely detailed answer you go off and say the person's avoiding. When I give a detailed post, you say it's forced. You can't have it both ways. We're both posting very similar to last game, and look how we were both aligned last time.

My vote was flippant and meant to be funny in order to get some conversation going. I wanted to see if he'd defend himself, (he did not) or if anyone else jumped on that train (no one did). I could have easily done the same thing by saying I need to deal with the elephant in the room and voted PE. I could have stated that elephants love peanuts and those two must be together. I chose the easiest of the few.

First few posts have rubbed me the wrong way. First advocating for less posting and trying for a late lynch, then saying he wants to keep his thoughts to himself. All pretty anti-town things.

Still suspicious of HG, just seems to me he is trying to put attention elsewhere. SebC's weird posts are concerning too. Not sure where to place my vote yet.

One of the strengths of a good townie is recognizing the difference between scum, and townies with a different playstyle. I'm anti-dogma. It's good to develop thoeries, but keep an open mind to the alternatives.

Rather than diving into the deep end with statistics, strategies, counter-strategies, and odds - i'm going to vote based on my intuition. The first day is the hardest day, and I think this is the best way to filter all the noise away. Obviously, this line of reasoning will have a high margin of error and probably won't be usable in the following days - I still feel it offers the highest chances of catching scum off the bat.
Literally minutes ofter the game started we have a bunch of players being active instantly. I feel that maybe the scum would need a few hours to collect themselves, even waiting on each other for the "okay" to post, and what to post. For this reason, I think the following are town - or at least 5/6 of them.
Hockeyguy15
bizaro86
Oling_Roachinen
Timbo
mrkajz44
Mostly inactive, pretty hard for scum to lay low for too long in Day 1. Probably one of them are scum:
Peanut
SebC
East Coat Flame
devo22
ActiveStick
PartyElephant - Inactive until later, then newbish. Town.
GGG - I feel GGG came on too aggressive off the bat to be scum. Usually scum posts are a bit less accusative... i'd say Town.
squiggs96 - talking about golf, votes ActiveStick for being not active. Generally plays a good town member... but could that be a sneaky scum? Probably not.
Puxlut - I can't put my finger on it... but for some reason I feel this is scum doing a great job of playing town. Def suspicious. Probably nothing though.
dissentowner - quietly throws names out, being extra careful not to be accusative... I'm suspicious.
GirlySports seems town... but she cast a vote because PartyElephant got defensive in his newbishness. Almost seems tooo town if you get my feeling.

In regards to this point - am I wrong to assume scum would have had access to the private chat for the 4 hours between when Mazrim sent out the roles/the first post and the post to start the game?

it was actually close to 16 hours between the role PMs and the start of the game. So if we assume that scum had access to their chat as soon as the role PMs went out, I think that'd be more than enough time for them to form a strategy.

to add to that - when I played scum back then, I believe the chat link was actually included in the role PM. That game didn't start with a night though, so it might be different this time around.

It's a tad early to have any sort of read on people with any kind of accuracy in my opinion.
Some players come out guns blazing with crazy analysis that in past games have proven to be incorrect, ruining the game for the Town.
I think it's good to discuss theories, etc. but we need to be careful to not take these theories as truth yet... It's Day 1 lol.
I do think there may be something to super active posters right off the hop being scum so they can be safe when the eventual lynching of low activity players is chosen as the way to lynch the first few players. When people on this bus lynch a town member, they fall back to "oh well he/she wasn't active anyway" and all is forgiven, scum blends in and we move along.

If that's the case, then that throws my first thought under the bus.
Regardless, i've reread the first few pages over and over and i really can't see more than one of them being scum... if that. Just seems like a town convo to me.

I don't like this in a game where win conditions change. As others have stated one of the cues for the turned will be subtle behaviour changes. So more is better in particular thus game.

There may be one person right now who has been turned. If so that person is all alone.
By reading the rules that person does not know who Capt, 2IC, or Engineer are. The Telepathic ability the Alien scum have can only work at night AFAIK and in 30 words or less. The three primary alien scum will know who is turned, but the turned does not know who the three primary are.
I believe is a strong advantage for us at this time in the game.
So if there is a "turned" passenger they are by themselves without any direction or leadership.
I expect this person(if there is one) to lay low, feel things out. They are on an Island until they get another turned passenger.
So I am looking at people who have laid low at this point. I believe that person to be a "turned" passenger.
I feel the three primary alien scum would have more direction and planning since they can communicate with one another right now. In fact I think they might even try to be very active.
With that said I am going to vote for who I think has been feeling the game out a little to much. I think this person might be infected.
Vote: dissentowner
It could be possible that the person who has the spore did not get infected and is unknowing. But for know I will go with this theory.
