No. Nylander would have been #1 then.

Does the great Mike Babcock not have the faith in his own coaching skills that he can't do a fairly quick turnaround with a lottery team? I guess as great as he thinks he is, deep down he feels he's no Bob Hartley.

Yeah that sounds like a great plan...

Well you'd like the majority of his stuff. He's usually saying how much the Leafs suck.
His point about people being sheep is right. That's why everyone said Babcock would never go to Toronto.

The leafs are much like the Flames 3 years ago. A couple of good pieces, but a whole lot of crap. Until they weed out the problems and commit to a full on rebuild, they will be terrible.
Nylander is overrated and I doubt he'd be much if at all better than his father.

Of course he is. He's a Leaf.
That poor guy who gets picked #4 overall in June. He'll be terrible the second the Leafs select him.
Nylander is a stud.

C'mon you're giving him way to much credit. He's not that accurate.

He isn't trending towards being a good first line forward. When I watch him play, I see a decent 2nd liner. That's helpful but it isn't anything to jump up and down about.
It also depends on who the leafs take at #4. If it's Hanifin or Strome, they are not as good as a guy like Marner, who is a legit player.

Based on what? He looked fine as an 18 year-old playing against men in the AHL.

Leafs need to pull a Flames and rid themselves of Phaneuf. Trade Kessel, Kadri, Bozak, Lupul for what they can and rebuild through the draft with Nylander, Rielly and 2015 first as the core of youth.

Agreed for all except Kadri. He's only 24.

There are many Leaf picks I have not liked.
Try finding negatives about Nylander. Kid is oozing talent.

As I said...
No, BigTroll. Your hypocrisy is from whining about people apparently underrating players simply because they are Maple Leafs when virtually every post you have ever made has involved criminally overrating certain players simply because they are Maple Leafs.

He's a nice prospect and piece moving forward but doubtful that he's going to make a meaningful immediate impact in turning around the entire franchise.
The Leafs are missing elite forwards to build around. And elite D. And elite G...they basically have nothing.

People are seriously underrating Nylander around here. He absolutely has elite potential and has similar upside to Drouin IMO.

Nylander has elite potential. Rielly can be an elite D.

In fact, he's shown a lot more potential at the pro level despite being considerably younger

Nylander has talent. But he is soft and selfish. I saw him a fair bit in the A last year and didn't like has game at all, despite the talent - very much a perimeter player.
I think he'll have to change a fair bit to become a solid NHLer - we'll see if he's capable.
Do not agree at all that he has elite #1 C potential. Maybe a 1st line winger, but no team is ever going to win a playoff series with Nylander as their top C.
