God + afterlife =

Next time your talking to your muslim buddies tell them the real reason for the rampant gun crimes in the USA is because there are over 300 million guns in that stupid country.
Like I said previously, religion is whatever you chose to make of it. The paradise with the 72 virgins is supposed to be available for any good Muslim. Whether you read the Qur’an and think that being a good person = helping others and giving to charity or good person = blowing yourself up and taking out 45 Shia children is up to you and your interpretation.

When I used to pay attention to religion, I was taught that the devil can work in both ways to make you stray from the right path. He can either tempt you with sin (like sex, drugs, etc.) or he can tempt you by trying to twist the word of God and cause you to do terrible things in his name.

Like I said earlier, I barely believe in any of it these days, but I'm here just to play devil's advocate.

Most of the time these attacks are done for a political reason. If it wasn't religion, someone would have convinced a different group of people to commit the same type of acts for one reason or another.

Do you believe Iraqis or Palestinians would be blowing up nightclubs or markets if it wasn't for occupation?

It's not your primary point but as an aside, there certainly are many sects that think the Bible is the literal word of God, inerrant and maintained so supernaturally by God over the millennia. I know because I used to be in a few of them when I was young.

Churches that require you to adhere to a common statement of faith in order to be a member, including beliefs like the Bible being inerrant, the earth being 6000 years old, there being a literal global flood, etc etc.

They definitely do believe that, not necessarily a voice in the clouds but that the authors were inspired perfectly, that the translations were done miraculously by God using the translators, and that the text has been supernaturally preserved over time. There's people who dedicate their whole life to proving such things, that's why apologetics is a thing.

Imagine the world of people channelled their money and energy into science, peace and hunger instead of sports and entertainment. What a dumb thing to say. It's not a zero sum game here.

To you and I, belief in some supernatural power is pointless. It isn't to others, but that doesn't somehow make you smarter or somehow better. You can still believe in your own supernatural power of being superior though.

For many armed forces facing a significant technology disadvantage this has been a tactic used to make up for the lack of technology over the course of history.

If the nations these terrorists hailed from had drone technology and modern militaries, we would likely be experiencing a different kind of warfare, probably under a national flag, not that of a terrorist organization. The whole terrorist thing mostly only works in places with a lot of hopeless, desperate people of few resources.

Granted it's evolving a bit now, as people are being coaxed out of comfortable lives, but I'd expect those individuals are still pretty disenfranchised with their lives, and are the same types that get lured by street gangs.

Everything that ISIS does recruiting wise is focused on finding what are basically angry, disenfranchised, and sexually hopeless losers. Guys that don't fit into society, live in a fantasy world and have never even had a little bit of sex.

then they promise them a world that is built around a semi heroic mission (Caliphate), willing wives and every sexual fantasy fulfilled (If you want to have sex with a 8 year old, its ok) and the ability to murder your black little heart out.

Lets be completely clear, the ground fighters for ISIS, aren't recruited for their Islamic ideas, they prefer recent converts who have been seduced by the more extreme selling points (Jihad) and then are fed lines of BS and ego stroking, given some rough training and sent off to rape, kill, execute and do whatever they want.

Frankly the ones that go over and come home, should be hustled off to a room in the airport with plastic on the floor and shot in the head.

this is a group that really needs to be eradicated, they're a blight on humanity.

In terms of what can be done humanitarian wise, in my personal opinion until ground is secured, nothing, ISIS targets humanitarian workers, they can talk about a surge and raising money, but the ones that really need the help are the people trapped behind the lines.

The old racist saying was the only good indian was a dead indian. However in this day and age to me the only good ISIS member is a dead ISIS member.

The losers that go over there are broken, that much is for sure, they're willing at some point to sell their humanity to become a monster, I doubt there's anyway that you can fix that person once they've gone that far over the line and found that they like it. And the ones that don't like it, and decide its not for them and want to go home, ISIS executes them in front of the others as a form of encouragement.

While I'm not a fan of putting the so called boots on the ground, I'm convinced that the air strikes are going to fail and the Iraqi and Syrian troops aren't good enough or in fact ruthless enough to fight this war and that's saying a lot.

At some point ground is going to have to be taken. The Oil Fields are going to have to be taken to cut off funds, and strategic road ways and towns are going to have to be taken to slow down the advanced.

The airstrikes they really don't do much anymore, ISIS has learned how to deal with those.

Boots on the ground is the tuffest decision.

It could very well be a long drawn out blood bath.

That's what ISIS wants, they want Western powers embroiled in a, sorry about this turn, Tar Baby Battle.

It would have been easier if Iraq and Syria had managed to do a better job of evacuating the civilians in front of the ISIS surge. They could have gone in and flattened everything standing. But as it stands ISIS has thousands of hostages and any fight is going to be a long drawn out building by building rat hole by rat hole battle if it comes to it.

Personally, I believe that there has to be an element of proper boots on the ground.

Seize the key oil fields, or level them. Cut off one of ISIS' bigger money makers outside of really aggressive fund raising.

Seize key strategic points and use them to bleed ISIS of their ground troops.

Special Forces are engaged in destroying ISIS leadership.

Overwhelming attacks on ISIS Communication, command and control and logistical stocks.

Focus on the destruction of ISIS' ability to move troops around, target their vehicle base, limit how fast they can re-enforce.

Start going to war with ISIS electronically, go after their money, and their propaganda centers. Quit fighting the propaganda war on their terms.

At home, a heighted search for ISIS recruiting on soil, a heighted search for ISIS recruiters using social media.

It really seems like the allies against the Islamic State think this battle can be won by physical warfare only. This is an idea. You can't fight and idea with a gun.

Anyone who doesn't think this is a religious secular war is crazy, unless the west puts 50,000 troops on the ground and sweeps ISIS out town by town it may never end.

Why? because Sunni's won't kill Sunni's no matter how crazy the sec has become. Look at the Saudi's,as soon as the Houthi gained momentum in Yemeni they went in guns/missiles blazing with boots on the ground. it's no surprize that the Houthi are #####e's.

Even after ISIS sent a suicide bomber to blow up a mosque within Saudi borders they won't respond..why because it was a #####e mosque and they could care less.

[edit] LOL, S.h.i.i.t.e is censored

not sure i understand. Are you saying that these types of occurrences are common in any/all war, or that such "propaganda" is common in all wars?

WE know that ISIS uses fear as a force multiplier to control populations.

We know about the mass executions, and burning people alive, because ISIS produces high quality videos.

We know that ISIS promotes sex slavery, because of the girls that have escaped, and also because its one of their recruiting pillars. Come here and we'll give you the wife of your choosing.

We know that the treatment of woman under ISIS even the ones that willingly join isn't exactly Emily Post.

ISIS is the purest example of concentrated human evil, they are equivalent to the Nazi death sqauds and SS camp operators.

And they're doing this on purpose to create mass outrage because they want the apocalyptic battle with the West on the field on their choosing.

Its a very smart two fold strategy

1) use torture, executions, sanctioned murder, sex slavery, pedophilia and anything else to attract the worst humans that you can get to use as cannon fodder front line troops.

2) use torture, executions, sanctioned mass murder, sex slavery, pedophilia and anything else to raise the rage of the civilized world, so they have no choice but to put troops in theatre, have your apocalyptic battle, every one in ISIS ends up in Paradise.

The solution. Blockade the area, cut off all electricity and internet access and news access, arm the crap out of the two sides and let them slaughter each other. If someone wants to fly there to fight, let them go, but put them on a universal no travel order so they can't leave.
