My son wanted to buy NHL 15, I told him no. We have NHL 08, 10, 12, 14. I told him we buy only even numbers.......phew looks like 16 will be good and I have not lost face to my boy.

Just print a custom cover for NHL 14 if 16 is bad.
Yup same with me. I don't care about new features or modes. Quite frankly the NHL series has been a monopoly for years now and I predict the same issues that arise every year will once again arise again. I could literally copy/paste my posts from every year when it comes to improvements.
-No pausing in online play. You can't pause FPS online games. Why or why dear Jesus can you pause it in an online hockey game. Even more ridiculous is every single player gets a pause. Make it so only the captain cause pause it ONCE per game. 1 time out per game, just like real life.
-If a player quits a game, have them depart seamlessly. No need to have the game paused for the full 30 seconds every time someone leaves. We don't need to see a useless replay after each and every whistle unless it's something cool that happens. Adding to that point, we don't need to sit around after each period in online mode and watch 2 minutes of replays when a period ends, then a 30 second pause while we wait for everyone to press the A button. Make it a quick 10 second break that shows the stats, then back to game on whether everyone is ready or not.
- No more powerpoint-like menu slides that lag to #### every time you try and navigate them. Make it simple and sweet like every other damn video game out there.
Honestly for me it's not the new features that will make/break the game for me. Couldn't care less about new HUT cards or whatever mascot is in the stands cheering. All I care about is having past issues that should have been fixed back in '07 FINALLY get brought to the forefront on these next gen consoles and fixed. I'm tired of all the lagging and pausing in online games. For me that is the #1 pet peeve I have. And it's the same with plenty of other gamers, yet nothing is ever done about it. So I'll believe it when I see it; improvements were made to the game and make it actually worth buying.

This includes mascots for almost all teams, signature props and different crowd chants. Perfect example for this is the San Jose Sharks. If you play as the home team with San Jose, you will see the Shark come down on the ice for the players to skate through out of the tunnel. Furthermore, when you’re on the powerplay as the Sharks, the fans all make the clamping movement with their hands while the Shark mascot goes wild in the stands. For New York Islander fans, the arena in Brooklyn is really well done. The areas of the rink in real life where there are no seats and the jumbotron being off-centered from above the middle of the ice is also there. Other things like the lights in Vancouver’s stantions, lightning tesla coils in Tampa Bay, fire in Calgary, cannons in Columbus, etc. were there so each team has their unique feel.
This is the kind of bullsh** I wish they wouldn't spend so much time on while the game is incomplete. I still need an online league mode, GM Connected done properly. I'll think about buying this game for EASHL purposes but it bothers me that they always want to prioritize this tangential window dress stuff instead of the gameplay.

This is how I feel about ear guards, skate laces, and tape strategies on sticks. I've been in forums with people that feel passionately about these things and it was like being Jane Goodall with the apes.

A valid complaint, but it is unlikely that it is the same group that works on the arena atmosphere/gimmicks also works on gameplay options.
Personally, NHL 15 just wasn't fun to actually play. Everything just kind of felt off and most games turned into horizontal trapping.
Apparently the PS3/Xbox 360 version will be called NHL Legacy, and it sounds essentially like a roster update. I don't blame them for not spending much, if any time on old systems. That of course, assumes they use those resources on current gen.
Excited for this game, as I expect it to be what NHL 15 should've been.
A note from a guy who was at the EA Game Changer community event a few weeks back (regarding 'authentic arena atmosphere'):

they should start by making the players faces look right...generic face for the Flames captain last year is unacceptable. NHL 99 on PC had the proper faces

Giordano definitely did not have a generic face last year.
