Not really, but watching Mad Max: The Road Warrior is still a good idea.

The only movie that has any kind of character development for Max is the first one, but it hasn't aged well at all and is painful to get through. Fury Road stands on it's own very easily, and within the first 5 minutes you get all the backstory you need

So, of course, the big question going forward is: does Mad Max get nominated for Best Picture? Enormous critical success, doing well at the box office, an truly artistic action movie, and the expanded Best Picture nominees category...

Already found an article talking about it:

http://www.goldderby.com/news/9275/m...086-story.html

Will be a long time before we know, but interesting to think about.

Not a chance. To get nominated the studio/director/etc need to pander to the academy, and part of that is having a theater release fairly close to the awards show. Mad Max will be long forgotten about by the time the actual nominations get done

Often, but not always:

And those are Best Picture winners, not just nominees. With the expanded category I really think it has a shot at getting in there.

What a fantastic movie. I lost it when the drum vehicle hit the screen and then panned to the front with the guitar guy. Once I saw that I figured it couldn't get any better... and then flames shot out of the guitar! Enjoyable experience from start to finish.

Saw it.

Loved it.

This is how you make an action movie. There is no bloat in this movie. The script, story, visuals all make sense and everything is there for a reason.

You're invested in everything from the get go. The action makes sense and drives the story. It isn't just a noise factory amusement park ride trying to tease a thrill out of you like Transformers for example.

Go back and look at previous action movies of the past decade and behold how bad they look compared to this.

Great. Freakin loved it. I honestly haven't seen the other Mad Max movies, so I was worried I would miss some stuff, but if I did, i didn't notice. I'm sure there were a few homages.

Though Hardy was awesome. I loved his nonchalant attitude, it was a great juxtaposition from the other characters and the setting in general.

The action was incredible. Looked like it was mostly done legit, so hats off to the special effects team.

The guitar player is pure gold. Who ever thought of that needs a pay raise.

Also, how can anyone hate Immortan Joe? The guy is extremely lovable as a baddie, and to be honest, is almost like the perfect family role model!

- Loves his ladies and will do anything to protect them
- Wants to father beautiful, healthy children
- Spends time with his son (Ricktus) on family outings
- Is a pro-lifer and will stop at nothing to protect the safety of his family

He's also a humanitarian!
- Provides his people with fresh water and is concerned they don't get addicted to an extremely limited resource
- Personally rewards his most loyal subjects with a promise to deliver Valhalla
- Gets along with the other neighborhood towns (Gas Town and Bullet Farm) and makes sure his people are well stocked in both
- Provides jobs for his people (Big Gear turning and military service)

Just an all around good guy!

I saw this the other night, and thought that it was pretty awesome.

Pursuant to Coys1882's post...Three of the bro's sitting behind me were talking about how they heard "some woman" was actually the main character in this movie, and were sneering about that. After the movie ended and we were leaving, I heard one exclaiming to his buddies about how badass she was.

^^I've read about some idiots online declaring this a feminist soapbox and are boycotting the film.

I popped into a thread on another forum and that was literally all they were talking about... I couldn't even understand what the hell was going on. It's incredibly sad that people have to twist everything to further whatever personal agenda they feel like pushing.

A buddy I went to it with mentioned the feminism after the movie and honestly it didn't even cross my mind until he said something. I suppose it could be viewed that way, but I don't see how it could possibly take away from enjoying the film. And certainly not a reason to boycott it. That's just dumb.

It's so weird how everything nowadays is twisted around to fit somebody's social agenda. If this movie came out ten years ago no one would've even thought about it. There's a chick that kicks ass in this movie. It's not the first time or the last this will happen in an action movie. It was also an awesome movie. So, feminist or not or whatever, who cares? Ugh.

You have to be pretty dense to think this is some kind of feminist propaganda piece and there isn't anything wrong with having a female protagonist. Terminator 2 and Aliens and perfect examples and I think the character of Furiousa made complete sense in this universe. I think her and Max were displayed as equals and what the hell is wrong with that?

But for the sake of argument; at the pivotal moment of the movie, Furiousa and her troop of women essentially give up and just head out into the desert but Max convinces them otherwise. He basically kills off the remaining bad guys by himself and then saves Furiousa's life. Isn't that classic Hollywood? What the hell are these people even complaining about? That Max had no lines? He barely speaks in any of the movies lol.

I thought Mad Max's relative silence was the best part of his character. It sets him apart from every other character and Hardy relied on facial expressions (which were often hilarious) to convey his thoughts and feelings.
