Hammond IMO was probably just a flash in the pan, but if the Sens do re-sign him, they must be looking to move Lehner, you would think.
He'll probably be the first one out. He'll go to a team that could use a goaltending prospect who looks to be cracking in the league, a team like Buffalo or Toronto.

If a team was to offer sheet Dougie Hamilton this year, which picks would they be putting at risk to start.....2015 or 2016?

....also, anyone think the Flames should do this? Kid is already a stud at 21. He's going to be a bonafide 6'5" 220 lbs #1 Dman for 10-15 years.....and the Bruins would be in tough to match with the cap hell they are in.

2016, offers can be made the day after the draft.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offer_sheet
I'm guessing we'd probably have to offer in the $5,046,586 to $6,728,781 range to get him to sign which would mean first, second and third-round pick compensation. At that price Boston might match though, even though it would be cap chaos for them.

He's great, but I just don't think offer-sheets are worth it. For Hamilton, compensation would be taken from post-2015 drafts (2016 and beyond).

With tagging space, the Bruins would just match any non-detrimental contract offers Hamilton would sign and then sort out their cap-space after the fact.

There are no shortcuts to championships. I'm definitely down for the patient route until we're absolutely filled to the gills with young, blooming high-level NHL talent. When that happens (and it hasn't yet), then we can start looking at "going big".

True, if you're to offer sheet anyone though it would be a huge 21 year old #1 defenseman.

Brodie - Gio
Russell - Hamilton

Default 2014/2015 Trade Speculation and Rumors

Would love to have Hamilton on the flames. But would Burke allow an offer sheet on an RFA considering his past with speaking out against Edmonton doing it when he ran the ducks?

I agree that it's a perfect scenario to offer sheet a player like him though. Hamilton would definitely be worth a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd I think. Only danger is a regression year for the flames... If that pick ended up being a top 3 pick for example. Burke has been burned by that once before with the kessel deal so he might hesitate to do it again. I know it's treliving's team and in most decisions I imagine he makes the call but a big offer sheet on another team's top young RFA defenceman at the cost of not having any picks in the first 3 rounds makes me think that Burke would be involved in the decision.

I agree that he's definitely worth it for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. What if we did this year's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd? Would that work since the offer sheet would just cost as much and next year's draft doesn't seem as deep and it would still leave us with a 2nd and 3rd this draft. Maybe add another prospect (Granlund, Kulak, Agostino)?

Burke was only mad about the offer sheet because it was far more than the player was worth

Really feel for Smid. I hope the next time we play Depres someone goes after him. That someone should be Ferland.

If the flames do an offer sheet, I'd go hard at tarasenko.

100% agree with going after Hamilton. See if we could get him in a trade first, if not sign him to an offer sheet and then watch the B's implode. I could see Chia doing it though but the oilers love their first overalls too much to do a trade like that.

What about a deal between the oilers and Florida centred around mcdavid for ekblad +

Teams don't like assets like dougie Hamilton get away. It's about as likely as the flames letting someone offer sheet Sean monahan.

Adam mcquaid is a much more likely target.

Apparently Mike Reilly has informed Columbus he wants to test the market. Where do you see him fitting in the flames d ranks?

He would immediately be the Flames best D prospect and the leading candidate to make the team's top 6 out of camp.

Read in a few places he would be considered a mid 1st round pick in the 2015 draft.

Any team that gets a good asset like that without having to trade or spend a pick is lucky. Sure would make me happy to see Flames land another one.

Not good news for the Flames hoping to get a D on the trade market. Rychel is a pretty good prospect to use as trade bait.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
One other thing: CLB looking for D and hearing Kerby Rychel's name out there. Jackets are loaded with good, young forwards. He has value.

Offer sheet Doug Hamilton. If the Bruins match then I look forward to seeing how the new GM clears $6 million in cap space to accommodate his new salary. If they don't match it then Hamilton is easily worth the compensation picks. Defensemen like him do not grow on trees.

I would happily offer 6 x $6.7M to Hamilton, but I think that gets matched easily. I think its pretty easy for them to clear room, they might just give up a draft pick to have someone eat Loui Eriksson's contract, or dump off Lucic to Edmonton. They just signed Torey Krug for a year probably hoping some contracts get off the books and they can book him longer, I would imagine if Hamilton gets OS'ed, the crux wouldn't be fitting in Hamilton, it would be what would they do with Torey Krug next year.

I don't think it will happen though .... optics of it would look pretty bad.
