I would imagine it is. The problem is that a big reason for the west portion is to take the traffic away from Sarcee and Highway 8. All this will do is add ring road traffic to already jam packed roads.

Does the twinning of Highway 8 have any sort of time frame? I know that it was on the long list of planned upgrades, but I'm not sure of the status.

Highway 8 will bear the brunt of bypassing traffic that comes around Stoney from the south, so if not upgraded by the time the SW leg through the Tsuu T'ina opens, that's where things will get really messy.

Look on the bright side, we can call it the Flaming C road.

Actually I say that with full realization; but selfishly knowing it isn't my problem. The portion that isn't being delayed will allow me to by-pass that intersection.

So what's the part that is actually getting built? From Glenmore/Hwy 8 down to Stoney/22X in the deep SW? So essentially if you're going SB on Sarcee, you would have the choice between going EB on Glenmore, or continuing SB on the 'new' Stoney Trail?

As a alternative, the Province should just help the city pay for interchanges at Sarcee/Richmond Road, Sarcee/Bow, and 16th Ave/Bowfort Road. Add in a redo of Sarcee/16th Ave.

At least that creates a free flow ring, even if the Sarcee portion is only an 80km/h road.

All of that should be 300 million or less.

Pretty much. You'd have to jog West for a bit on Glenmore/Highway 8 to the alignment of the new Stoney though.

The missing link will be the section between the Trans Canada and Glenmore/Highway 8.

16 and Bowfort is starting up shortly.

I don't think the province will want to spend money on that section when the last piece of the ring road will get started on shortly after the SW portion is completed; or even before it is.

Better be. I just discovered today that they shut down Buffalo Run for this. Seemed a bit premature.

They had signs up last year saying it was the final year.

I must have been too busy looking at Diana Arvatescu wanting to take me home.

It will be fine for some portion of the years, a mild annoyance for some portion of the years, and for the remainder, a cluster. For residents of Discovery Ridge potentially something even worse than a cluster, at times.

I think that's a greater good kinda thing. Ring Roads aren't meant to serve the communities adjacent to it.

On a related note, I noticed those billboards are gone now.

The one positive about that (if the guy at the course was correct) is part of the deal is the government now has to build them a new golf course in the next few years.

Which they will operate the same; aka us whiteys can show up for cheap golf!

Yeah, the ring road is going to be about 1/2 km from my house, and the impact will be almost all negative. Dog park paved over, nearby section of bike path will now run adjacent to a freeway instead of open view of mountains, and a major traffic route is opening up between our house and the school the kids will be walking to. On the plus side, the two or three trips a year I make to the West end of the city will be quicker.
