If the Flames are looking at big, strong, skilled players I think they need to be looking at SJ and Brent Burns maybe?

Berglund is interesting, but I see him very much like Colborne, big boy, can skate and use his size at times. Very inconsistent with all the tools..

Dale Weise, has speed, good size and a bit of an offensive touch.

Justin Abdelkader is another big one. Sure it would take a solid package however Abdelkader immediately slots in beside Bennett.

Alex Chiasson out of Ottawa could potentially be had. Has he really shown progression in Ottawa?
Or has he hit his potentially, bottom 6 guy, nose for the net, inconsistent.

Obviously everyone is available at a certain price... but I don't think NJ was fielding offers for him or anything like that.
It was rumoured (if not confirmed, I can't remember) that if Larsson didn't start getting NHL playing time he was going to ask to be traded.

If I were Reilly, I would strongly consider Calgary based on opportunity alone. He would become our undisputed #1 D prospect and would have a golden chance to win a spot as soon as this season on a young, up and coming team fresh off a playoff series win, with nothing but potential for more in the years ahead. Also, Hartley is looking more and more like he is one of the best developmental coaches out there, that can't hurt our chances.

He and Brodie would really set us up for the future. I know he's not likely to sign here, but he's just what we need. He'll probably sign with the Rangers or Chicago

It's also interesting that it was only three seasons ago they missed the playoffs. Most fans in that situation would have demanded that their best years were behind them and time to rebuild, at least that's the mentality I've seen here over they years. Instead the Ducks continued to draft and develop quality players and they're right back in the mix and cup contenders.

Ducks are a weird team to me.

Four years ago they were a "lucky" team that only made the playoffs on unsustainable hockey. They then missed the playoffs the following year, fired their coach, and have been one of the top teams in hockey since.

Outside of Perry and Getzlaf (and now Kesler) it's not like they are loaded with stars. They have depth but outside of the big 3 no other forward broke 40 points.

They were a team that was built around two offensive stars, but they developed a young, puck moving defense that is very unheralded, and strong (but not amazing) goaltending to build the battery.

Lindholm- 20
Fowler- 22
Vatanen - 23
Despres - 23

Anderson- 24
Gibson - 21

Shows you what a commitment to playing the right way, combined with strong center depth, a puck-moving defense, and decent goaltending can do.

Man the Ducks are so lucky Rutherford got desperate for a defenceman at the trade deadline.

Solidified a group of 4 young defencemen that will haunt the Pacific Division for years to come.

And people were talking about that as a possibility.

Perry and Getzlaf were coming close to UFA IIRC and discussions about trading them popped up.

Looks foolish now. Imagine trading Getzlaf for Kadri, Bozak, Schenn, and Colborne.

I do kind of think that with that young d-core the Ducks could look at moving Kesler and Perry in the coming years to try and help re-stock with younger forward depth. You keep Getzlaf as your big strong playmaking center (his style ages better then the other two IMO) and you can probably keep a really strong team together as those d-men come into their prime.

But that's Toronto media, already have seen Stamkos to the Leafs rumors popping up.

I know there were rumors of the Pens having interest in a Flames defender and at the time it was rumored to be Russell. When they went and got Lovejoy back it made me wonder if it was Engellend they were actually targeting?

He's making fun of the O'Reilly offer sheet from early 2013.

It's nice, because it hasn't been discussed or brought up enough over the last couple years.

Hot rumor out of Vancouver is that they will go after Cody Franson (hometown boy) IF they can find a taker for Bieksa.

I hope they get him and pay him a huge pile of money. I personally don't see what's great about Franson. He looks like a bottom pairing guy to me that is about to get paid big time. I really hope the flames are not considering him.

+1 to this

Anyone familiar with why they traded Garrison? He signed a NTC to be there, hometown guy and they ship him out after 1 year. He is better than Sbisa, Bieksa or Franson that's for sure. But their bad asset management is our amusement I guess.
