I don't think you go wrong either pick, but I think you do better with Toews and Kane. The Hawks have been more successful, but you can't compare both team's successes based on Toews & Kane vs Perry and Getzlaf because both teams were built differently but Toews is the best player out of the four. All four guys are the type you want to build your team around but Toews would probably be most peoples top choice.

Stajan said G+P were the best top line in the league, FWIW. Mind you, that was just after they'd beaten the Flames.
I agree Toews is the single player on the top of a lot of lists, and moreso than Getzlaf. I suspect he's very close with Crosby.

Eh, totally debatable.
Perry won the Hart Trophy in 2011, and Getzlaf was 2nd in Hart voting in 2014. Toews' best finish was 4th in 2013. And I wouldn't put too much stock into cups, since Chicago's supporting roster in those cup years was better than Anaheim's roster has ever been, even this year.

My comment was about players you'd start a team around. I think Toews is on a lot of those lists. Crosby is too, obviously.
I think Getzlaf isn't mentioned as much in that regard, though I think he's very close to being the best player in the league. I would take him over Ovechkin or Benn (the two Lindsay skater nominees this year).

Toews won a Conn Smythe and a Selke, and has been a finalist three times now.
It's not a huge gap, but I would rather build a team around Toews.

U17 Gold, U17 MVP, 2x WJHC Gold, WHC Gold, 2x Olympic Gold, 2010 Olympics best forward award, 2x Stanley Cup, Conn Smyth, youngest Captain to win a cup, 4th youngest Captain in history, youngest Triple Gold winner, 4x All Star, 1x Selke (many nominations)
The guy literally has nothing left to win

Yea, pretty much. He's lacking a little in individual awards, but this is still so impressive. And when looking at this list, lets also remember that he is only 27 years old.

It is crazy to think but Getzlaf and Perry are 30 already, which for a forward in the NHL is slightly past their prime.
Toews and Kane are still 27 and 26 years old respectively. For that reason alone I would take that pairing over Getzlaf and Perry at this point in time.

Probably been talked about, but I hope the Flames take a stab at Eric Gelinas from the Devils if he is available. They have like no good forward prospects so that should help cause we have quite a lot of depth at forward.
6'4 205 defensemen thats only 24, could be a solid bottom pair defensemen for this year.

Friedman speculated last week that Gelinas may be moved for a scoring forward.

I can't see us giving up any of our proven scorers. Maybe possible candidates or combination of Raymond, Colborne, Jooris, Jones or Shore? Anyways it would probably involve someone we wouldn't want to give up but I doubt we get him for scraps.

Flames might be looking at someone currently playing at the World Championships, heard they have a few scouts there watching the tournament.
Some of the rumored Euro UFAs, Plotnikov and Kukan are still playing.
edit: maybe also watching Mike Rielly.

I feel like we missed out on the potential Larsson window, and it makes me sad

Adam Larsson? Other than fan speculation was there ever any indication he was available? I remember lots of message board people speculating that he might be available because he had a rough stretch with NJ, but I don't remember any legit sources saying he was actually available. Obviously everyone is available at a certain price... but I don't think NJ was fielding offers for him or anything like that.

That's why I said "potential". No one knows for sure, but he had a couple of down seasons while they were having young D-men with good seasons. The possibility might have been there.

Gelinas is a disaster in his own end.

No, but DeBoer was scratching him night after night. There's bound to be speculation in that situation.
