I hated the fact they got rid of Selmy in the show. Total waste of a character in the show. I'm not pleased that they didn't add the Conningtons at all.

I've heard a rumour the Conningtons may still appear later.

What do you think, are the sleuths in the other thread reading book theories and posting it as their own?

Totally. The theory of Jon's parentage clearly isn't as originally as its being made out.

They're hinting at Jon being a Targaryen a lot this season.

First they show Littlefinger smirk when Sansa says that Rhaegar raped Lyanna...which wow that sentence seemed a lot creepier than it was meant to.

Barristan has held Rhaegar in high-regard while talked about the Mad King being crazy very openly now.

And just last episode Aemon Targaryen said something like "there's nothing sadder than a Targaryen alone in the world" while cutting to Jon being all like "sup?"

Combine that with Ned and Jon's final conversation that made his mother seem to be important early in the show, I think there's room for non-readers to start picking up on things. It's just that no real reason was given that leaves me skeptical.

it's book readers/lurkers trying to justify that "theory" through the show only. some evidence is there, but it wouldn't be obvious at all to someone who is strictly show watching. a show watcher wouldn't clue in to the importance of Littlefinger's brief recounting of the story of Lyanna and Rhaegar and right away relate it to Jon and the previous clues that were subtly thrown out way back in season 1. no way..

hopefully the innocent show only crowd doesn't clue in to these book trolls passing off book theories to them by playing dumb. if I only followed the show I'd rather cue into the theory excitedly when the show intends to reveal it. which definitely is not yet.. they have started putting clues out there, but not enough for a TV follower to actually be like "Ohh!"... people really do suck.

Won't they be surprised when Jon "dies" at end of the season.

And because we have no Stoneheart, they've probably totally forgotten about Beric being raised from the dead.

I've read this before, but I think it's actually Jon that is Azor Ahai (sp), not Stannis or even Daeny.

Not as surprised as book readers when Jon isn't brought back.

I do think it's a fair point about the stonemen in Valyria brought up in the other thread. Of course it's different in the books. But it doesn't quite make sense sending these guys to Valyria when it would be a risky endeavor for whichever ships taking them (both contacting the disease and going so close to "the doom").

A lot of people think that Stannis will eventually die and when Melisandre performs the ceremony to resurrect him as the Lord of Light it will actually res John.

Not sure how this will work with them being away from the Castle..

Stannis could very well already be dead.

amazing that 5 episodes in and there seems to be very little left from the books to do, what's their left to do in the show other than:

Dorne stuff.
Cersei's humiliation.
Stannis army gets snowed in.
Jon gets stabbed.

I'm pretty confident that the iron island stuff is gone, griff will show up later, the dorne dragon kidnappers are gone, no freakshow for tyrion. Not much from the books at all.

Add the Arys Oakheart/Arianne Martell story and you have all my favorite parts of the last two books gone.

Can we also talk about how ridiculous it was to have Daenerys propose to Hizdar and not follow the book?

Not only that, but killing off Selmy and his badassery with Hizdar was a poor choice. Guess they'll give that to Dhario or Grey Worm now.

Also, LOL at the show watchers and their "theories." I like the one poster that came right out and suggested that Tyrion might be a Targaryen. That hasn't even been remotely speculated in the show.

Is the "Tyrion is a Targaryen" hinted at in the books? I know nothing.

I don't know. I was doing so reading of the forums of A Wiki of Ice and Fire, and all evidence seems circumstantial at best.

Jon as Rhagar and Lyanna's son names more sense to the narrative.

Tyrion as a Targ just feels like fan wank. Next you're to tell me the Col Tigh and Chief Tyrol from BSG are Cylons.

I think the only evidence ever given for Tyrion being a Targaryen is the colour of his eyes. I always wondered if Jamie and Cersei were secretly Targaryens, given The Mad King's infatuation for their mother.

I'd forgotten till I read it last night, apparently in AGOT Tyrion mentions dreaming of dragons. They connection is Daenerys has similar dreams in the same novel.

Also Someone had a theory that Sam was Targaryen.

Everyone is a damn Targaryen. Game of Targaryens is what the series should be called. It's like an Oprah give-away of nobility.
