yeah right, cause Hiller is a huge upgrade on Fleury.

perhaps if we just ask nicely Pittsburgh will give us their 1st for nothing.

whatever.

point being, there is no way you would get a 1st for one year of Jonas Hiller. He's a capable NHL-level goalie, but that is about it.

any GM who would trade a 1st for Hiller likely wouldn't last long.

What's a middling starting goalie worth than TOfan? You seem to have lots of answers and yet none at the same time.

a Swiss national playing in Sweden's pro leagues
according to his agent has a NHL offer on the table along with multiple invites to join a NHL teams in training camp for the 2015/2016 season
also according to his agent, good chance he stays in Sweden - going to do what is best for his development
some updates from Friedman:

Quote:
7. Hearing Edmonton (among others) has some interest in Dean Kukan, a Swiss defenceman. He will be 22-years-old in July and spent the past two seasons with Lulea in the Swedish league. He was injured early at the worlds, which is affecting his play, but is a good skater. Big question will be if he’s ready for North America. Another defenceman getting looked at is 27-year-old Czech Jakub Nakladal, who plays for Turku in the Finnish league. But I’m less sure of his future.

8. As European-based scorers like Steve Moses and Artem Panarin find NHL employment, another one hopes to make the leap. Derek Ryan, a Spokane-born former Alberta Golden Bear, led the Swedish league in scoring with 60 points in 55 games for Orebro. He’s 28 and not the biggest guy in the world, but everyone’s looking for the next Tyler Johnson. Toronto had some discussions about him, although I’m not sure they’ll do it. Another possibility, apparently, is Washington.

If by "North America" they mean the NHL, I'm pretty sure he's not.

A hypothetical trade.

To New Jersey

Mikael Backlund

To Calgary

Eric Gelinas

Gelinas is a 6-4 defenseman and has 48 points in 122 games and may be available on the market. Backlund would be one of the top offensive weapons for the Devils.

What do you think?

I would make that trade right now.

You would trade Backlund? Sinner!

Seriously though, I like Backlund. Great shutdown d center that cant win a faceoff with some offensive upside!

I could say the same thing about Granlund too!

Then there is Matt Stajan! Granted Stajan can win a faceoff time to time!

As for prospects? Give me Bill Arnold! Solid D guy, faceoff man, big body. Can score points with Gaudreau, yet be a shut down center too. A bigger Conroy in my mind!

Mark my words this guy will be a player for us.
Sure would be nice to win a faceoff or two!

I would trade Backlund to bolster the d on our team. I just would not trade him to Detroit! He would have teachers there that could make him be the player he could be. He is a pretty good player now. Trade Backlund to any other team, but Detroit!

We could just ask Kipper about Naklada

Duha says he can see the Flames shopping the Baertschi pick for a defenceman around the league.

Duha also says he saw Rich Winters (Giordano's agent) at the dome recently, perhaps negotiating parameters with Treliving on a Giordano extension.

Reality is, looking g at the Flames depth at C, Granlund is almost ready for full time NHL duties.
If Bennett goes back to C, Backlund is the odd man out. If you can get a solid top 4 damn who is on a decent contract, you pull the trigger.

I have a feeling that this is the year Backlund moves on, he's got some value and should bring back a decent return. I'd love to put something together with NJ that would bring Gelinas to Calgary.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Backlund moved this summer or before the next trade deadline, especially with Granlund pushing for full-time duty. A package of Backlund and one of our 2nds should get us a top-four defenseman. However, I am also not opposed to keeping Backs; I think he brings a good element even if it wasn't in the final two games.

Would much rather move Granlund than Backlund imo.

Backlund is the perfect 2nd line center stop gap until Bennett eventually becomes it.
