I can't even believe this is a thing. This is the biggest non-controversy in league history.

The NFL is pure comedy when it comes to discipline.

You'd have to think an appeal will take it down to 2 or 3 games. My guess is this is why they came out a little harsh with 4. Its the 1st rounder that is a big ouch.

The guy actively cheated, and then lied, and then failed to collaborate with the investigation.

He got what he deserved IMO.

So that means Brady is eligible to return on SNF in Indianapolis. What a shock to see the league capitalizing on this.

At first I thought him and the Pat's were being unfairly punished over the deflated balls. My first reaction was that it's akin to if they took away the Caps 1st overall pick after Ovi leads them to a Stanley Cup with an illegal curve on his stick. Would simply be a stupid thing.

But then I realized the harsh punishment was mostly due to not cooperating with the investigation.

That's the thing with the Rice comparisons too.

Rice performed a terrible and untolerable act, and deserved more then 2 games (and in the end got much more then 2 games).

BUT Rice still fully collaborated with the NFL investigation, it was proven that he did not lie, and was admitted to his mistake.

Brady's was much less despicable but he still decided to try to hide it, lied about it, and acted like a ######.

Also Rice was an off field incident, Brady's had a impact on multiple games so that likely is also taken into consideration.

So Brady is now required to hand over his cell phone to an investigation about deflated footballs?

This isn't a court of law, and he wasn't subpoenaed. Typical Goodell making no sense and thinking he is god.

Yeah, Brady being suspended for four games is a big deal on paper, then you see who their first four opponents are and they should be able to at least go 2-2.
HAHA what? Pitts and Dallas will kill them without Brady. IN Buffalo with that D? They will get shutout.

They will be extremely lucky to win any games unless they find a QB

They're pretty high on Garoppolo, and Belichick has worked magic with the likes of Matt Cassell before. In addition, neither Pittsburgh's nor Dallas' defenses are anything to write home about.

Hope the Pats win all of those games anyway and run the table.

Lol - Tom Brady is now synonymous with cheating. If the Pat's appeal Goodell should add two more games.

Patriots stripped of their first-round selection, still manage to trade it to the Browns for four picks

New England would have beat us even if they hadn't cheated. That's not a debate. We couldn't stop the run. The fact is though they cheated and then Brady deliberately lied about it. That's why the league came down with this ruling. I think it's a fair ruling. Lying about not knowing about it doubled the severity of the punishment. I think it would have been 2-3 games a 500,000 fine and a 2nd if he straight up said he cheated.

As rubecube said, looks good on them. They would have won the AFC Championship anyways but it ruins the integrity of the game by cheating (I know people will say others cheat etc but that doesn't make this any better).

Integrity of the game? Is there a single person out there right now that thinks integrity when it comes to the NFL? And even if it came down to a question of integrity, it is Brady that should be exclusively punished... Or at the very most, a suspension for Brady and the rule book suggested fine for the team. A loss of a first rounder and the 1mil is a GD joke

Great day for NFL fans. The Patriots are the most well honed, organized group of cheaters in football and it's great to see them get caught and pay a price. Does anyone really think that Spygate and Deflategate are the only times they have cheated? Of course not as this team has done everything they can over the years to bend or break the rules like that controversial play they ran three times against the Ravens where they only had 4 offensive linemen and the LT is used as a receiver. Sure it was deemed legal due the the verbiage of the rule but it was cheap and the rule was quickly changed to make sure it never happens again but that's the Patriots. Any little advantage they can gain they will use wether it's legal or not and the cumulation of all these advantages wether it be spying on other teams, deflating balls or anything else they do has contributed to their successes. Best group of cheaters we have ever seen in North American professional sports but cheaters get caught and it's good to see fitting punishment.

It's not a joke because he was asked about it straight up and at the press conference just ran around in circles and lied about it. The punishment is more for that then the act itself. He should have just came clean. NE didn't need to cheat to win, they would have won anyways. That's why it's dumb they did it. You can't cheat and then lie about it when asked about it. The ruling is fair IMO. Tom Brady is a great player. He didn't have to cheat and then lie. He's better then that.

In terms of the part I bolded from your response, I think Patriots fans would have been more upset if Tom Brady was given a 1 year suspension over the 1st round pick though right? Like if it was a 1 year suspension for Brady and money (they keep the 1st rounder). Patriot fans would have been even more upset.
