I'm also a Sydney native (well Sydney River).
First hockey game I ever saw was while I was visiting my grandparents as a child. I thought it looked cool, picked the team whose symbol was a C with fire as opposed to the team whose symbol was a C with an H in it. But, I said I'd cheer for whoever won that game.
Flames won that game.
When I got to school the next morning, I informed my classmates of my decision.
I had no concept that everyone else in school was a Habs fan. Everyone thought I was trolling and just being a ######. I was told if I was a Flames fan I'd have to be hardcore, and they I was explained what that meant.
I agreed. I'd be a Flames fan forever.
And I have been. Ever since.
All because the Flames happened to be playing the game on TV that my grandparents were watching while I happened to be visiting.
On an unrelated note, that game was May 25, 1989. The Flames won the cup when they won that game. I had no idea what the Stanley Cup was, let alone that they could win it that night. If the Habs won that game (and subsequently lost to Calgary in game 7, I'd be a Habs fan).
Anyway, been a Flames fan since May 26, 1989 (I say I've been a Flames fan longer than anyone on the planet who hasn't seen them win it all).
Been a member of this forum since January 25, 2004. So far I've only met one other poster, but that should change in 3.5 weeks.
