Default Hudler's final shift

I finally had the chance to watch the game again and I think Jiri Hudler's final shift deserves its own thread.

I know it's not Iginla's shift from 2004, but the amount of abuse that Hudler takes in the final minute of the game - drawing the penalty that allowed Backlund to jump on the ice before helping screen Andersen for the winner - is something special.

I've watched it a few times now and after getting mauled by Stoner, he creates a scoring chance before getting crosschecked by Lindholm into another crosscheck from Stoner, before getting the businesses from Kesler and... finding his way back in front of the net for the screen on the game winner.

Would love if someone with more technical ability than myself could post a video of the "shift 2015" (here's looking at you AC...)

He may not be producing as he was during the season since he's clearly injured, but the guy is a warrior, especially playing through it. Watching him on that shift was definitely amazing.

100% love having Jiri Hudler as a Calgary Flame.

Unsure how to embed but this makes me laugh. I don't know why, I think it's just the dumb penalty in front of the ref which resulted in OT goal.
Glad to have a guy like this on our team.

When you're done watching it the first time, go back and watch it again with the knowledge that Hudler is 5'10", 186 lbs and the guys hitting him, Clayton Stoner, Hampus Lindholm and Ryan Kesler are 6'3" 212 lbs, 6'3" 205 lbs, and 6'2" 208 lbs, respectively.

Haaha, yeah the current title sounds like an ESPN doc on an athlete battling cancer or something.

Gaudreau and Backlund might have gotten the goals but they were a result of a full team contribution. Lots of little things that had to be done right or they never would've happened. Russell also saved the game in the last minute by back checking hard on Silfverberg, boxing him out, and keeping him from having a good shot on the empty net. Really an amazing game all around.

Monahan too. Definitely something wrong with his right leg, by the looks of it when he skates off to celebrate the OT winner.

He was also on the ice for a really long time, he could just labouring because he's physically exhausted.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's hurt as well though.

Thanks for this guys. I didn't see the game so this is very nice. Amazing work by Hudler. Gaudreau did a neat spin pass back move to gain them some space on possession too.

Fortunately Brodie was quick to put out his stick or that puck was going in the open net.

great post your right if just keep your eyes on Jiri (thanks to AC's upload)
Jiri battles the much bigger D that entire shift and he didn't quite after being tripped and knocked down until Backlund scored.
Super impressive battle in front of the net, he reminded me of Roberts there.

I'm glad the refs actually called a legit penalty for us during an offensive chance. Usually seems like the team without possession can do whatever they want including the Flames.

I don't think the Ref would have called that penalty in OT if that was the only time he was knocked down. He was crossed checked about 5 times. Hudler had a great shift.

Exactly ... 1/2 penalty on the cross check, the other half on the Stoner punch to the face. He doesn't want to call anything but two in a row is putting him in a place where he has to.

Monahan ... will be really curious to hear the Monahan report when this season comes to a close.

Delayed penalty in OT, the time it makes the most sense to be incredibly patient with the puck, and only wait for really good oppurtunities.
