I can agree with those nominations. Hoping for Hartley, think he has it, but wouldn't be a complete robbery to see either of those other guys get it.

Winnipeg is probably gonna be pretty pissed about the finalists but there are just too many good candidates this year. Should be a win by Hartley

Weird,
Thought Maurice would be in the crowd over Vigneault.

Hartley deserves it for whatever he's been spiking Wideman's water with.

Coach in the finals last year gets nominated for coach of the year for making the playoffs?

Vigneault?
He coached the Rangers to the President's Trophy......not just "making the playoffs".

I think it's due to the fact that they won the President's Trophy!

Surprised to see Vigneault; presumably Maurice was a very close 4th.
Hartley should have won it the second we beat LA to make the playoffs. Make it happen!

Its more so the fact he has an established winning roster, Maurice had to deal with some pretty tough times with injuries and player drama but still produced a playoff team.
I'd pick him over Vigneault IMO.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC 5m5 minutes ago Adams Finalists: Hartley, Laviolette, Vigneault. This one is handled by the NHL broadcasters' association.
Broadcasters determine coach of the year? Seems odd.

But Hartley deservedly would have received the surprise playoff team vote. No one was anointing the Jets as Stanley Cup champions in the summer, but they weren't expected to be quite as bad as the Flames were. Both teams suffered some major injuries but with Giordano out and the Flames still making it Hartley was the easy choice over Maurice.
Vigneault's coaching the President Trophy winning Rangers. The Rangers, before his arrival, were a bubble team to make the playoffs.
And Laviolette took a team that missed the playoffs and turned them, at least most of the year, into a contender for the top team in the league. Bad stretch down the end culminating into a first round playoff exit definitely lowers his luster, but voters didn't know the playoff outcome.

If Maurice was a finalist it would be close.
Given these finalists, it absolutely has to be Hartley.

Suck it, Jets.
As long as Vigneault doesn't win, I'm contented with Hartley receiving the nomination. Hope he wins!

But Maurice isn't a finalist because it wasn't close.
The winner is already technically decided. They just give you the top 3 and wait to announce it. Anyone who voted for those 3 could have voted for Maurice instead.

That winning roster did finish 1 point ahead of 8th place Islanders in 2012-2013, 2 points ahead of 9th place Carolina in 2010-2011, outside of the playoffs in 2009-2010 and 2 points ahead of 9th place Florida in 2008-2009. 2011-2012 they won the East, but 4 of the 5 years before he took over they either just made it into the playoffs or missed it.
Either way, his team had the best record so I don't think he's undeserving of at least being nominated.

Coach with the best record. Coach that got an underachiever over the hump (funny - Trotz would have fit this bill as well). Coach that did really well with an unexpected PO run.
This is a typical group.
