I drool at the thought of Mantha. Obviously fallen out of favor with the wings organization but would not be opposed to moving a mid level prospect and couple of picks for him.

Large frame on the right side with huge scoring in junior. I see Mark Stone all over again when he figures it out.

I don't think even Burkie blasted Sven that bad. Way to destroy players confident and value. What a knob! who made him the Senior VP?

I believe the Wings of all teams would know all about patience while bringing players along slowly. I wonder if there's more to the story such as fitness level, commitment, etc.

Let's not kid ourselves, GMs talk amongst each other and they have multiple pro scouts telling them what the Wings already know about Mantha. Just because they call out the player doesn't change how poorly he has played.

I would definitely give Mantha a shot if the price was reduced to get him. He is almost 2 full calendar years younger than Baertschi just for comparison.

I know there is a lot more to the game than stats, but his output in the AHL for a 1st year pro seemed alright keeping in mind he was drafted later in the 1st round. At 20 years old, I would think there is still room for him to learn.

Having said that, blasting a player like that isn't necessarily a ticket out of town. Most of them can take it and use it as motivation.

Keep in mind Mantha fell to the Wings in the first place because of questions about commitment and character. They're clearly sending him a message that he hasn't been receptive to in other, more private instances.

Do the Wings sell Mantha off now? Would the Flames be wise in buying low on this kid if the opportunity presented itself? What is buying low? 2nd round pick? 2nd AND a 3rd/4th?

Send them one of our second rounders and a prospect.

Didn't the Leafs want Mantha in return for Phaneuf and Detroit wouldn't go for it. Unless something has changed you aren't getting Mantha for cheap.

Devellano also likes to shoot from the hip.

He's earned the right and there likely won't be a reproach, but I wonder if he's got some personal investment in Mantha the player.

I doubt the Wings walk away from him for later picks. Though I guess we saw the Flames do that with Sven, but Mantha is earlier in his career.

Sounds like another Brendl to me. There was a reason a lot of teams were passing on him.

I remember leading up to that draft thinking there was just too much smoke to his character issues for there not to be some truth to them. I remember comparing him to a Rene Bourque or Evander Kane. A guy who could take over a game when he felt like it, then completely disappear when things got rough. Then he went and scored a goal-per-game in his draft +1. I didn't follow him as closely then (what do I care about Red Wings prospects), but thought maybe he had turned the corner.

Now this comes out. Seems like the opposite of the kind of prospect the Flames are looking to have in the organization. That size/skill combination is very tempting, and every team wants to be the one with him in their organization if he turns the corner, but I don't think it's worth the cost to take that kind of risk.

Friedman says he expects the Devils to trade Eric Gelinas.

Devils likely looking for a forward back.

Should be a Flames target.

The Flames should trade a piece that makes them flinch a bit, because that's what it will take. Granlund, Poirier, or Klimchuk could be pieces to move.

Where's Sven when you need him? Haha

Eric Gelinas...could be an opportunity for the Flames to trade quantity for quality, especially given the Devils abysmal forward prospect depth.

Am I mistaken or was it not speculated that the Devils liked Jankowski.
Given the Flames sudden depth at centre perhaps there is a deal to be made there.
Janko+one of the 2nds for Gelinas.
