How does this come back to Raymond? He was certainly not part of the problem tonight. If anything, the secondary players like Wideman, Jones and Backlund need to pick it back up again and show they can play with the poise needed to take some pressure off of the top line.
Right now its just way too easy for the Ducks to key on the top line and roll the dice against the rest of the lineup and Drew Shore is certainly not going to turn that ship around on his own no matter who he replaces.

After game one I got chirped a lot as a flames fan in Ontario, and responded with the fact that despite the score, we were down 1-0 in a second round playoffs series...same as 3 other teams. I feel the same right now, as for some reason there is still positivity in the media and from local friends and "acquaintances" about the habs, despite them being 0-2 at home, while it happened to us on the road. I have faith the "C of Red" will do as proud, as will the team and, like, ahh, Bob Hartley back at the Saddledome. GFG

To add to the Mason Raymond conversation, I feel like he has some of the best instincts on the team for where to be in the offensive zone, as he has a ton of chances every time he is in the lineup. I also feel like he lacks a finishing ability as he doesn't capitalize often, and even misses the net on seemingly half or more of those chances. Agree he seems softer than is ideal in the playoffs, as he pulls up on plays when he has the puck, and rarely finishes a check, even if its not a hard one. Let them know you're there guy! Also agree that this isn't his game and we can't expect him to change what has made him a professional hockey player for several years. These losses can't be pinned on him, even if I'd like to see more from him.

That means a 12.2% chance of winning

Honestly, the Flames biggest issue right now is that the 1st line can't generate anything. Probably injuries playing a part, but those guys are relied on to not only score, but generate momentum. Right now it's not happening.
|
He was only against Getzlaff in the middle of the first period, and got smoked.
I usually defend Backs, but he looked off tonight. Not his usual compete level.

Nowhere in my post did I put this on Raymond. My comment was he's afraid of his own shadow (ie he's soft) and that I think drew shore would be a better option. I don't think that would have got the flames the w, I was simply making an observation.

Regarding his pulling up on plays, Raymond has 146 assists in his NHL career, and more than just a few of those assists have come from him skating into the offensive zone, pulling up and passing to trailing teammate. But would be hard pressed to recall many scoring chances coming from this move this year in Calgary...so is it Raymond suddenly changing up a move he has done for years, or lack of communication between him and linemates, or linemates not getting enough separation from opposition to get a pass, or Hartley's system, or???

Being down 2-0 sucks, but let's not forget that we're watching the Flames play in May for the first time in 11 years. Win or lose, there's nothing to be ashamed of with this team this year. They're one of only 8 teams left. Truly amazing what they've done considering where everyone except Ward picked them to be.
Also, the Ducks crowd is a pathetic joke. Can't wait for Tuesday so we can show them what true hockey fans are like. Go Flames Go! Never quit!

To be clear, I don't mean crossing the blue line and pulling up to look for support, I mean literally pulling up on 50-50 puck races and not being willing to take a hit to make a play. To use a more insulting term, "bailing out on plays". But again, I'm not blaming anything substantial on him, would just like to see more ... "Truculence"?

Flames are really lucky to have faced Vancouver in the first round. Vancouver is terribad. Its funny how most here would 'prefer' to play Chicago over Minnesota. Says a lot about how stacked the Central is compared to the Pacific.

I realize the ducks have been a WCF favourite, and they will always be till they lose. They play a very VERY effective game and our team is still extremely young, probably bottom 3 in the league in terms of youth.
This lesson if we don't advance will be crucial the learning experience for our players in years to come. Sam Bennett as an 18 year old looks fantastic. Johnny Gaudreau is our offensive catalyst and Sean Monahan by the time he's 25 will be as solid as any top centre in the Western Conference. The future is bright for the flaming C. #NeverQuit I believe in Bob Hartley.
We will even things up in games 3 & 4.

Still 2 + games to go. If they can get 2 W's at home, they'll steal game 5. Of that I believe.
I also believe that getting those 2 w's at home with the Flames injuries is going to be like building a submarine made from driftwood logs.

If choosing between the two I'd rather face Minnesota. The Dubnyk bubble is bound to burst any time now.

Is that simply the success rate of teams with 2-0 series leads going on to win the series? Or is it the success rate of #1 teams with 2-0 series leads eliminating #8 teams? I'd assume it's the former. The latter is likely well into the 90s.

Without a healthy top line we are duck dinner. I'm interested to hear what Monahan and Hudler have been trying to play threw, Monahan looks like he's playing on painkillers and Hudler looks like he needs some.

The Jets had 4 players that had significant injuries (Ladd, Byfuglien, Trouba, Perreault). I assume it's the same for the Flames.

Sorry if already discussed but Wolf is a liability out there. Just doesn't have the skating. Seems to me he spent half his shifts on his ass. Assuming Ferland can't go, Shore or Granlund have to be the better option at this point don't you think ?
