I had asked the mods if I could generate the discussion on selling above face value, and here looks to be as good as place as any without starting a new thread.

How would people feel about CP allowing members to sell tickets above face value? I understand some people think it's awful, but I think it's a discussion worth having. Here's my logic on why I would allow it here.

Not all games are created equal. A Saturday night playoff game in infinitely better than a Sunday noon game against Arizona. I think there should be a premium for that. I also don't think if someone wants to only go to one game per year, that they should get to pay the same price that someone who is a season ticket holder pays. If I commit to four tickets per year, including preseason and playoffs, I'm committing to spending thousands of dollars. I don't get upset if you only want to pay $20 for the noon Sunday game, but there's no chance I want to sell you the NYE game against Edmonton for face value when the open market will give me three times that.

Here's why I would allow scalping on CP. With the Flames making the playoffs there is more demand for tickets. If people can't or don't want to go to games they will sell their tickets. If they want more than face value they will go to Ticketmaster, StubHub or other secondary markets. These companies take huge fees from both the buyer and the seller. Ticketmaster charges the seller 10% and the buyer 20% + $5.25 per ticket. I listed my tickets for $333.33 each. They sold, which means I took home $300 per ticket. The buyer paid $405.25 per ticket. Ticketmaster made $105.25 per ticket. I usually list tickets for whatever price will give me my desired payout, in this case $300 per ticket. If I get $300 per ticket, it really doesn't concern me how much the buyer pays, but I'd be very happy if they only paid $300 and not $405.25. For the 4 seats I collected $1,200, but the seller paid $1,621. Ticketmaster made $421 for facilitating the transaction. I don't mind them making money, but if we can do the transaction for free ourselves, why not?

If we were to list tickets above face value on CP I feel it could save both the buyer and seller some money. There are CP members who are going to Ticketmaster and StubHub during these playoffs, and maybe buying off of CP members. Either way ticketmaster is taking large chunks of coin that could be eliminated. Without the fees, the prices would be cheaper for the buyer, and the seller would, in theory list for less money, so this could save the buyer more. With multiple people being allowed to list here above face, this would increase the supply which should also drive the prices down.

The selling above face value only affects playoff games and about 25% of the regular season games. The rest of the games are unaffected and you can always get them below face value during the season. If the Flames continue to improve their team, ticket demand increases, this will increase prices. If the market is going to set the prices, why not have it all done here? I don't use CP specifically to sell above face value, but it would be a great benefit.

What I would do is have a subforum in the ticket threads where posters could start threads if they meet certain criteria. I would suggest being a season ticket holder and CP member for a minimum of three years, and maybe a posting minimum of 1,000 or so. This should curb actual brokers from posting for free instead of selling through their ticket websites, etc. It should also curb people who buy released tickets and then come here just to sell. Maybe CP could charge sellers to enable them to start threads for the season (a set amount would give them a season's worth of posting, whether they used it once or 1,000 times).

I think it's just the wording that has them so upset, and that's fair. The site is just to serve the purpose of keeping real time track of what's available for our friends to prevent emails of "do you have this game still?" We just tried to have some fun with it thereafter so it wasn't extremely plain to look at.

The backbone is that we have 2 tix available for a large number of games that we'll sell at the price the tickets were intended to sell for at the door, and not above. We came to learn that there are 4 levels of pricing for our tickets, but decided to keep the same price for all.

As I earlier eluded to, we don't sell all the games. We donate some to charity, we donate a handful to help our kids' fundraisers, and of course we attend games as well. In the end, The difference from ticket holder to face price helps us offset our cost each year in consideration to all this.

Sorry to all of this was misleading. It wasn't my intent.

When we started TikTiks, we were going to make it so that tickets for sale could only be face value or below. Then we realized this would be a bad decision, because no one would sell tickets on our app and we would get no traction. The reality is, the demand is huge for playoff tickets and premium games. Face value tickets are very few and far in between for those. Anything being sold for less than market value is usually a scam.

For the regular season I'd like to see it remain face value. STH are still making a profit there and your average joe who only makes it out to a handful of games a year isn't getting hosed.

Playoffs however, personally I think above face value should be allowed (and that's coming from someone who despises scalping, and voted for no markups above MSRP in for sale threads when that discussion came around). Even if I'm paying an inflated rate I'd rather buy from a CPer than Stubhub. Alternatively if I bought tickets above face and for whatever reason had to sell them, I'd prefer to put them up on CP to recoup my money rather than put them on Stubhub or Kijiji.

As a season ticket holder. If you sell all games at face value there is at least a 20% profit. More premium games result in more of a profit. Playoffs are 40-50% mark up. People are going to pay if they want to go no doubt about it.

Don't give me the I care about the person buying them cause if you really did you would sell them here at face value.

I have lost a fair bit on tickets over the last few years not being able to give seats away at times but I know what I am signed up for.

This forum is set to sell at face value for a reason. To get flames fans to games at a decent cost. It is not set up to make someone a profit because the demand is up during playoffs.

If you want to sell above face value that is your decision but there are a lot of avenues to do that all ready. Why is it necessary for the mods to change the rules for playoffs.
People did sell tickets in first round here for face value.

No need for the mods to change the rules here.

I think that's basically the reason why above face value tickets make sense, at least for the playoffs. I couldn't make it to the first round, because I was out of town on a pre-planned vacation. I sold one at face value to someone who had bought a bunch of games from me this year, but I don't especially feel like selling at face value, which is way below market. When someone took Tuesday games during the season at face, sure, but for someone who ground me to below my cost during the regular season, well, sorry, but now the market price is above face.

That being said, I would have way rather sold to CPers at the same net price and saved someone stubhub and foreign exchange fees. I also think the electronic transfers of tickets make above face on CP a more reasonable option, as it reduces risk of fake tickets, etc. I also would make a sub-forum for above face playoffs and limit it to members with xx years and xx posts or something.

I agree, I'd rather sell my tickets to CPers. I sell to them during regular season, usually well below face.

During the playoffs, no matter where I sell them, I'm getting better than face value. So why not be allowed to sell to the people who have bought from me previously and to the community I support the most.

My observation is that many folks expect the best of both worlds when it comes to buying tix on CP.

When demand is low, it seems that people have no problem with getting cheap tickets (ie. below face value) from fellow CPers. For many low demand games, it's difficult to get rid of tickets unless they are at STH cost. People that go to one or two games a year can pay as little as STHs who have to shell out bucks for preseason games and every single home game

When demand is high, folks get all hot and bothered about 'scalping' and STHs trying to make a few bucks off high demand tickets. They expect people to sell them at face on CP when they can get several hundred dollars elsewhere.

If you want access to playoff tickets at a reasonable price, buy a bunch of preseason split squad games and a few Tuesday night Columbus games at face value and go from there.

TickPick is pretty good and has fees much lower than Stubhub or NHL Ticket Exchange. I've used it before. Total fees at TickPick are 10% while StubHub or NHL end up with fees over 25% once all fees are added in.

Is there any traffic there. Cheaper is better, but if the buyers aren't there?

Let me pipe in and also ruffle a few feathers. If you sell above face value, your scum "nuff said". It's as if somebody says everybody else is driving drunk so why can't I. Just because one guy is willing to pay$350 for a ticket in the bleeders, does that justify the price? I think not and anybody listing above face value knows morally it is not right and I fully hope this election will put wheels in motion to outlaw scalping tickets over face value.

Rant over.

Yeah, you just compared me, because I legally sold a pair of tickets to Game 3 Vs. the Canucks on NHL ticket exchange for above face value, to scum/drunk drivers.

No, it's really not like that at all. Your post is silly.

When did supply and demand become morally wrong? This entire province has no morals then.

Let me guess, you want to make your $3-350 profit per seat take home, but don't like dealing with the creeps on kijiji, so you'd like the mods to constantly do all the filtering for you of unreputables so that you could make that profit quicker and with less headache.

If you want quick, simple, and trustworthy transaction sell the tickets for face value here. If you want to make your obscene $350 per seat go deal with the scum bags on kijiji

Can you suggest which moral code someone would be breaking by selling above face value? That seems a little dramatic, it's not illegal and as far as I can tell hurts no one. (Economically speaking, willing seller +willing buyer = net benefit)

I don't write $300 cheques to random internet strangers, and I don't work at my job for less than the market rate. Do those things seem morally wrong to you as well, because as far as I can tell they're equivalent.

What makes face value a sacrosanct thing? If the Flames made face value $1000/game would it be wrong to sell 3rd bowl for $350/game? If not, why is it wrong to sell for $350/game when face is lower?

Anyway, I don't have a huge dog in this fight, I have seasons but mostly go to the premium games. I think a lot of the complaining comes from the same people who nickle and dime STHs on regular season games and wouldn't pay anywhere near face when market is less than that, so the hypocracy annoys me.
