So if both ferland and Hudler are out for game 2 who gets in? I don't think adding raymond does anything for us. Do the flames go to some black aces? Poirer and Carroll?
Speed and grit?
never mind, forgot Carroll cant play in playoffs and is just around for the experience this year

But therein lies the problem for the Canucks, they got sucked into a game that they should not have played. Teams have to play to their strengths and the Canucks were not a physical team to begin with. The Flames are also NOT a physical team during the regular season. It really was a one man wrecking crew in round 1 of the playoffs for the Flames. The physical game was ALL Ferland, that's how impactful he was.
The Flames are not that type of team. They are a skilled and speed, counter attack team that was one of the least penalized teams in the league. They need get back to that against the Ducks. That's how they beat the DUcks in the regular season and that's also how they beat big teams like LA. Flames have to play their game, and their game is not a physical game. That's what made the Flames successful all year.
As for all the dirty stuff, Flames should just ignore it. No pushing or jawing in between whistles. Just play hard and go to the bench when your shift is done. I'm sure that if the Flames skill players continue to ignore Kesler, Perry, and company, they will get annoyed and take penalities. Flames can't engage with them, they have to play the game right and don't take penalties, and in turn frustrate the Ducks and get them to take penalties.

This.
The one thing that worries me with Hudler out and Monahan playing like he's hurt, is that even our skill game is pretty low right now.
I think this is going to be rough.

After a big loss, I often cope by choosing a scapegoat to trash on (often irrationally), so here it goes:
Backlund has only 1 assist in 7 games. I don't care how good he is defensively, that's unacceptable for a second line center. How many second line centers get 8 point in a 60 game (the average number of games Backlund plays) season?
The only regular skater with less offensive production on the entire team is Josh Jorris. Are there any other forwards in the NHL that have averaged 18 minutes played per game, yet only have 1 secondary assist in 7 games?
Before yesterday's game, he was even a minus player. This means basically nothing, but still. It's good that he has a strong corsi and everything, but I just think that a second line forward who average 18 minutes per game should have more than one assist. Even by sheer luck.
Yes, I have watched the games and he has looked good in many ways. Just zero offense, which is half the game.
But Pat Steinberg and a lot of voters on the "underrated poll" say that Backlund has been one of the best forwards on the team, so it must be true... On the bright side, at least he hasn't been injured yet in the playoffs. He's also been pretty consistent.

I would guess Bouma, Diaz, Giordano, Smid and Byron are all done for the season....
My guess Ferland is out for awhile...
As for Hudler no idea...
Of course, the Flames won't comment....
Only way to tell if they are close is if they participate in practices.
(i.e. Ferland did not practise with the team before game 1.... He was already hurt)

Our boys need to start slashing ankles and arms if that's the way the Ducks are playing and the NHL is okay with it. Can't take it laying down, got to take an eye for an eye. If we're going to lose anyway, and to dirt bags, we need to extract a pound of flesh and send them limping into round 3.
If they're going to beat us, so be it. But if they're going to beat us AND run our guys, I say #### it and call up McGrattan and Wolf. Get Wolf to do some of they crazy stuff he was known for over in Europe. Let them advance with 3 or 4 of their guys out on the IR as collateral damage, if that's how they want to play it. Start with that dirty POS Thompson, get Wolf to two hand him over the forearm or ankle ASAP. Can't just take this and fade quietly into the night, give the Ducks something to think about next time they want to try that cheap crap.

Look at the other second line centres left in these playoffs:
Johnson
Stepan
Kesler
Richards
Plekanec
Kuznetsov
Koivu
Backlund is better defensively than maybe three of them, and worse offensively than all of them. He's not a 2nd line centre, he's a decent 3rd line center. Hopefully Bennett can establish himself next season.

Backlund has been pushing the play the past few games and is unlucky to not have hit the scoresheet. I think his presence will be felt this series.

True, I hope you're right. Especially with Kessler being there in a similar role haha.

Easy there tiger. I understand your anger and agree it was a dirty hit from behind but he got a penalty and thank got Gaudreau wasn't injured. Let's not all be lumberjacks and self destruct. It was one bad game, having our guys run around like goons will do nothing but hurt us in this series, put our players at risk, and damage our reputation.
Lets re-group and focus on the next game and do our best to trust referees to make correct calls. Players also have the capabilities to fight one on one fairly as well as deliver some big hits as punishment for the bad hit, so lets leave it in those capable hands and not play garbage chippy hockey.
