Hopefully they'll be ok. I would imagine Ferland will be out for the rest of the series but I'm not all that concerned for his hockey career. Every one reacts differently when it comes to concussions, he very well could not be phased by it. With that being said it sucks that he's had 2 in the last 4 months and we could sure use him against the dicks.

Not optimistic about Ferland. Hopefully Hudler will be okay with a few days rest. If not:

I hate how the rest of our guys seem to all have long-term injuries. Appears to be no such thing as a 3-5 days out anymore. Wouldn't be surprised to see Ferland and Hudler out for at least two weeks, which would seriously hamper our chances in this series.

Good lord we need Bouma.

Absolute disaster of a game. I think that was worst case scenario.

I was confident going in to the series, now I just hope we can get a win at all.

i kinda think that the short term injuries are just never disclosed anymore, and besides, every injury is day to day now, so what are you talking about

Even if Ferland is feeling better, he should be shut down completely if he suffered a concussion.

For the type of game he plays, he should NOT be playing for the rest of this series. Flames also need to be monitoring him all off-season too. Given his past issues, he's more high risk to suffer from some of the mental effects of a concussion than others. Flames need to take care of him. They need to look after the person first.

Like others I'd be very surprised if Ferland came back in these playoffs. Should never have really stepped back on the ice after taking that initial hit behind the net.

I think we shouldn't even try and play physical with these guys. They are too big and too strong, and it isn't really our game anyway. We're not going to wear them down by trying to hit them, and now with Ferland gone there is really no one who is going to set the tone in terms of physical play.

Just do what we're best at, and use our speed and skill. No point in going toe to toe with these guys on the physical game because we're just going to get beat up all over the ice and it isn't our natural game.

Yup. Spanked and potentially a few of our best players knocked out of the series.

Not sure I agree.

IMO it was a chain reaction started by Jones that hurt Ferland. That's not something the Ducks did to him.

Hudler was a dirty slash. That should have been punished. It was a cowardly punk move.

Johnny suffered a hit from behind, shoudl have been boarding. Again, dirty punk coward play.

That's not clean physical play, its dirty. The NHL 'officiating' continues to confound me.

Thompson did get a penalty, I believe it was a 2 min crosscheck.

The NHL are never going to do anything about those slashes or hits in the playoffs. Not those type anyway. I agree that they were cheap shots and attempts to injure our players, but the league just isn't going to do anything about it.

But in general I'm not talking about the hits and slashes, I just think we got away from our natural game and just need to stick to using our speed and skill. There is no point in us trying to go toe to toe in terms of physicality because we're just going to get battered in the process. We were successful at it against Vancouver because they aren't really a physical team either.

Flames had it handed to them and the reffing didnt sway the game. That said, I was speechless when they called some of the minor early stick infractions ( no problem yet, they are calling it tight) and then Johny is run from behind into the boards and its considered the same as a tiny chop to a stick that breaks neither stick?
Had Johny stayed on the ice for a couple minutes it is easily a 5 minute. That is not how a league should be called.

The one positive I can think of if Ferland has another concussion is that the last one didn't seem to stop him from having a monster series against Vancouver.. So hopefully he can recover again.

Watching him, it was pretty clear that he definitely got his bell wrung. With that said, he also was fully able to operate under his own power. So while things might have been a bit foggy after the series of hits, hopefully it isn't a serious concussion and the Flames held him out for precautionary reasons.

If he does have a serious concussion, I hope they shut him down for the season. Ferland has established himself as a big time player these playoffs, and brings an element to our team that makes us far better. I want him healthy for the long run, not a playoff series or two.

With that said, if he comes back in game two, I hope he blows up a couple of those Ducks for all the liberties they took last night.

A serious concussion... any form of trauma to the brain should always be considered serious.

I've had many concussions playing sports, some worse than others.

There is absolutely a difference in concussions. That is why doctors evaluate the severity and handle treatment accordingly.

The problem I have with not pushing back with the physicality is that the Ducks are gonna continue to take runs at the Flames. See: Ferland vs. Canucks.
