Default U of C joins stem cell project

Quote:
A University of Calgary scientist has conditional approval to extract embryonic stem cells from human embryos for the first time in Alberta, a controversial practice that is sparking opposition from pro-life groups.

"They are human beings," said Joanne Byfield of Alberta Pro Life. "That should place them above being used and abused and killed for research."

But if they're just discarded, which is what usually happens as they're left over from fertility treatments, that would be ok.

Yeah, that really makes sense.

Not to worry the rapture will take care of us all. IMO I think if they can cure cancer or help ease it I'm all for stem cell research.

I think if it results in me getting my own Shaky's, I'm all for it.

Maybe I can put it best in the words of a timeless song:

"It was the heat of the moment..."

Seriously though, good on them. I agree with Robbob.

You know what, this might be harsh, but I think anyone who is against stem cell research is an absolute ######. The pro's of this scientific development so far outway the negatives (that is if you think the negatives are even relevant), that it's mind boggling why anybody would be against it.

The possibly of curing Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Diabetes, Stroke, spinal-cord injuries, bone diseases etc, are all within reach of stem cell research.....why would anyone be against this? People are aginst stem cells because they want to prevent "suffering" of a few human cells? How about all the suffering that is alleviated for actual LIVING HUMAN BEINGS?

I agree, Table 5. Since I have first heard of this, I have always thought Stem Cell research is the future of medicine. There is SO much good this research can do.
