Icon48 Random thought: Is there going to be mutual interest between the Flames and Mike Gree

From Calgary, R handed shot, decent size, is injury prone though.

I believe I read here not too long ago that he has no interest in playing in Calgary.

Also not sure if he's an upgrade on anyone in our top 4.

Well, all our other no names seemed to have turned into star players so might as well grab Mike Gree as well. See what he turns into.

If Calgarypuck can manage to gather together 100 discontinued Easton Stealth CNT sticks, I think it's do-able.

Get on it.

Personally, I would rather go with someone that's a little better defensively like Paul Martin than Green because we do have enough offense from the blue line.

He might turn into Mike Green for all we know.

In all seriousness, I think he fills a very slot as Wideman which likely makes one of the two a bottom pairing player assuming Giordano/Brodie stays as the top pairing. It might make sense if he needs a "redemption" contract ala Hiller and Setoguchi but I don't think he's looking at that as much as a nice long signing.

I've severely disappointed the OP wasn't simply: "n?"

He'd be an upgrade on Wideman for sure, but not worth 6+ million.

I went searching for who Mike Gree was then Google told me who it was...

Really thought it was a prospect or something

Have you not watched the last 85 games?

Especially the last 25?

i think there's a decent group of ufa dmen that could play in that 2nd/3rd pairing role. there's some options there.

You can't break up that Gaudreau and Wideman chemistry

A couple of years ago, I would've said yes. This year? Absolutely no way.

Maybe Michalek says yes this time. He'd be a great fit, if he could be wooed to come here.

How anyone can say that is beyond me... Wideman has really elevated his game this season and I'm far from convinced Green would be an upgrade at this point.

This discussion is probably a moot point. Based on everything I've heard from close friends of his, he has no desire to play in Calgary.

I think y'all are nuts and Green would be a perfect fit with how our team is built. I would not scoff at bringing almost ANY NHL level defensive talent into the fold.

Green has been great all season, been a different player under Trotz. Wideman's been great this year don't get me wrong, but if you gave me the choice between the two I'd rather have a guy like Green.

Four months ago I would have said yes to Mike Green on the Flames, but now with the way Brodie, Russell, Wideman and Engelland have stepped up with Gio out, I take a pass.

1. Gio
2. Brodie
3. Wideman
4. Russell
5. Engelland
6. ???????

Don't need Green as another big ticket Dman, and then have him play bottom pairing with another right handed Dman.

Leave that spot for a journeyman like Schlemko, and make a young guy beat him out for a spot.

EDIT - Still though, Green would fit Hartleys system really well IMO, so I wouldn't be upset if we did sign him.

Right handed shot is a big plus.

Not sure you want to pay him what he wants though. But seriously, him on the 2nd PP unit would be huge as I'd imagine Diaz won't be here next year.
