Just had a couple tasty chicken 'donairs' from Fedek here in Baku. Miles ahead of ANYTHING I've ever had in Calgary (including Jimmies, which is my go to place) and cheap to boot. Just 2 manat.

My favorites are Uncle Moe's on Edmonton Trail, and The Chick Pea on 8th Ave @ 7th St SW.
I hate that this thread exists because I'm on a strict diet regimen right now, and I would kill for a donair. Eating clean sucks.
|
Yup I agree with you on this but remember its 70% diet and 30% exercise! I went from 184 to 174 in about a month and a half or so, nothing really to extreme but I gain weight like crazy. During the holidays about 2 weeks or so I went from my 174 to 181... How? I just kept eating and not working out this just shows my metabolism sucks.
Speaking of Uncle Moes, does anyone want to try the D rex with me? For anyone who doesn't know what it is, its a beef donair with 1KG of meat with all the fixings (lettuce, tomato, onion etc on a 12 inch pita) Its $40 but if you can eat it in under 45 min you get it for free.

I go to Pita Express off Olympic Plaza, they make it the way I like it. Chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickled cabbage and plenty of garlic sauce. This is the way I was introduced to it when I lived in Ottawa. All it is missing is the garlic potatoes.

Had to bump this to complain-
The Shawarma place in westbrook mall is hands down the worst. Their Chicken shawarma platter is about 4-5oz of chicken on a bed of green lettuce. Thats it.
Anyone tried Mazaya though in Marda loop?

Yes, it's decent, but super expensive. Like $15 for a shawarma. Their other food is good though and reasonably priced for what you get. The place is more of a sit down shisha lounge/restaurant. It's not like the typical take out shawarma shop.

I had the absolute worst donair ever the other day at The Desert Pita and Grill (52nd and Memorial Dr location)
The meat was literally burnt and you could taste it with every bite, the veggies were stale, the tahini sauce had a weird taste to it. Just awful overall.

Is Sam ("my friend") gone from Shwarma Station on 10th St NW? I have not seen him in a long time, but they still offer Sam's Sandwich.

Wow, you must have caught them at a bad time. That place is usually pretty decent.

I see they expanded their store? I hear nothing but good things. Had shwarma for lunch today, may have another one for dinner!
Babylon Fast Food next to Memorial and 28 St. SE is amazing. Haven't eaten there in five years but damn if I forget how good they were.

Every time I eat at Little Lebanon, their chicken always tastes old and microwaved. Am I the only one? My go to is Shawarma Knight... their meat has a specific seasoning that gets me hooked.

Shawarma and Falafel City on Kensington Rd. and 12th Street is still my favourite... but it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. They have taken to being pretty stingy with the meats. If you get a jumbo size, though, you'll be full for sure, though your wallet won't be.
