Well, that and last time we were playing NHL and you had to pause to clean up an explosive mess that come to think of it actually was very similar to the AirB&B mess.

Lol, think some people's sarcasm metre needs to be turned up a notch.

But back on topic, the service seems solid, but I'd never rent my home out to anyone. It's one of the reasons why I don't have a room mate. Sure, it would help supplement my mortgage payments, and my house is kind of big for one person, but I like my stuff kept in nice condition, and I would never be able to trust some stranger using it.

EDIT: NVM, they were comparing this news story to an AirBNB house they accidentally started a fire in when they were in Miami.

Nothing to see here.

Yeah...I can't imagine renting out my place to someone else. If they are a friend, no problem. I got a couch or a room they can surf on/in, no problem. Some random stranger? Not a chance.

Maybe it was organized by Chicken on the Way. The "take out" special?

AirBnB is solid.

I've used it a bunch of times when travelling. Both entire private units or shared rooms. When you are somewhere new and foreign, its helpful to have a local around to ask information, tips, etc. Plus in most of the shared units the host leaves you alone (or is gone most of the time) anyways.

In certain places it is much cheaper than a hotel, and sometimes works out way better if you have a group. Way more space for less cost.

Plus, their review system is pretty good. Obviously it failed in this instance. Sucks to see what happened to this place.

Would I ever list my own place on there? No way. I never even wanted roommates when I was single and living alone.

Well it's probably cheaper to use airbnb and cause 50 grand damage to someone else's place and pay the fine than own and destroy your own place. There's probably 100 trust fund kids around willing to pay $1000 to have an epic house party.

It's one thing to rent out a suite in your home or a rental property, but I think you have to be really trusting to leave your entire home (and all of your possessions) to basically complete strangers. What's stopping them from rummaging through all your stuff? If they steal something, do you think you're going to notice by the time they're leaving?

Terrible situation to be left with for the homeowner; I'm assuming AirBnb will be going after the renters to collect on whatever they have to pay out under their "insurance policy".

P.S. I'm curious if these people are reporting their "rental income" to CRA...

Is anyone dying to know more about these people that rented this place? A mid-40s guy, and somehow he rounded up 100 CRAZY people to completely trash a house in a drug fueled gang bang (with chicken wings?).

From my perspective, this has been great PR for AirBnB.

I've never heard of it before, but will definitely try it next time I'm out of town.

Glowing reviews from users here, and it sounds like their insurance will assist the homeowners properly.

My brother-in-law had someone like this rent his place.... for several months. It was awesome. Lots of items were obviously damaged by hooker/stripper shoes. Even more awesome was how long it takes to evict anyone, and the odds of them getting all the damages back, despite getting a court ruling in their favor. No AirBnB insurance to bail that situation out.

Yeah, it really is a good system they have and AirBNB got on it right away and turned a potentially disastrous PR situation into a win. Having said that, they make money hand over foot. Covering the $50,000 is nothing for them even without the PR boost.

It's really too bad that Ontario and Quebec have made it pretty much illegal to rent under AirBNB.
