and rightfully so.

Never heard or Airbnb but I gotta say I do like the sounds of it. As a renter.

Glad there was an insurance policy for this type of thing

I have a few friends in Calgary who do this year round. They rent their apartment out and then bunk with a friend and give the friend a slice of the money. My friend has never had an issue and at times such as the Stampede she makes a lot of money and it is still cheaper for the renter than staying in a hotel.

It's not like they found the guy on the street and tossed him the keys. I've never used anything like AirBnB, but I'm sure there is at least the promise of some sort of vetting process, and a signed contract.

They were the victims of fraud and their home was destroyed by criminals. No sympathy?

---

Anyway, what kind of maggot would do this to someone else's house? Even if you were just invited to the party, how could you wreck their things like that? A child lives there for crying out loud.

I'm surprised some of this hasn't shown up on social media somewhere. People this stupid would no doubt take pictures of themselves destroying a stranger's home. Effing scumbags.

I have used AirBNB quite a bit when travelling overseas (probably more than 20 times), but I don't think any of the places I stayed at were actual residences that the occupant was living in and renting out. They always seemed like properties that were designated as rentals and the person lived elsewhere.

I think it would be uncomfortable to rent out your primary residence like that.

I don't get how a place can get *that* destroyed. Seriously, who does that?

I'd be selling the place or bulldozing it and building new after the AirB&B insurance money came through. Ew.

I've used this service before and loved the experience. Both times, the home owners were part of what made the experience memorable for me. I can't believe someone would trash another person's home like that. Estimated 50k in damages is crazy.

On the news they interviewed the neighbors and they said a party bus showed up and that the scene for the next 3 days was like something out of a movie.

I'm firmly in the pro-air bnb camp. I use them all the time as a renter and, as a company they are fantastic.

They earned my loyalty the very first time I used them. Rented a place in Amsterdam and had spotty communication with the host. Then, 48 hours before I got to Amsterdam she sent an email canceling my rental. I was already in Europe and not regularly checking my mail so I didn't see the message until 24 hours before I was to arrive.

In my inbox there were also like 6 other messages from air bnb. The first was an apology, sent minutes after the cancellation. The second was a full refund plus a 100 euro credit. The next four were airbnb hosts who had rooms available and were offering me discounts on their regular rates.

Airbnb had solved my problem before I even knew it existed and I ended up in a much nicer place in a more central part of Amsterdam for less. Since that experience I am pretty unswervingly loyal to the company and have had nothing but great experiences since then staying in about 50 different airbnb places all over the world.

Did the renter intend to comp the neighbors?

My stomach turned when I saw the baby playpen in there.

I get extremely nervous when the kid at the dealership is driving my car around the corner from the front to the service bay at the back. I cannot fathom giving your house to strangers. You gotta be kidding me.

LOL, one of my monster pet peeves is when a buddy pulls a new golf club out of my bag, and starts swinging it without my permission. You know they are gonna hit that one random rock and chip the face.

The absolute worst ever, was some knot head I worked with years ago. I literally got a new motorcycle 3 days earlier with less than 100 kms on it, and I come outside and dipsh*t is sitting on my brand new Hayabusa kinda rocking back and forth. I come outside, and ask him "What the hell are you doing?".

"Oh I've had bikes before, just feeling the balance."

"OK, and you should f'ing know you NEVER rub the tank on a sport bike with your belt buckle. And secondly, you NEVER sit on another guys bike without asking. And even if you do, the answer 9/10, is no."

The idiot scratched the hell out of the tank, the 3M guy was coming in to wrap that day. He tried to squirrel out of it by offering to get the tank re-clear coated, and I wouldn't let him off the hook. Made him pay $750 for a brand new factory tank. And told him if that wasn't an acceptable option, we'd be settling in small claims court.

I try and keep my stuff in pristine condition, I work hard for it. That is why I could never count on some stranger to take the same care in personal property. Especially my home.

Because keeping things in pristine condition usually goes out the window when you have kids.

Which is precisely why I don't have kids.

Really? You are going with that reason for why you don't have kids?

It's solid reasoning. Kids mess your stuff up and cost a lot of money. Plus, the Earth is overpopulated as is. They also wake you up at night and I can see how that would be highly annoying. Kids are a relic of a bygone era.
