"McDavid sweepstakes" team is going to the 2nd round of the NHL playoffs for the first time in more than 10 years.

All of those eliminations happened after the vote.

Only one I could see being close is Maurice. Same conference, same expectations for the most part, and battled probably worst injuries then the Flames

And the East bias with reporters if you believe in that type of scenario..

The Jets aren't very "east".
I wonder if Trotz gets any votes.

It would be a travesty if he didn't win but it would hardly be the first time this franchise has been jobbed out of a major award because of geographic location. I put his odds at 50/50. Muta said it best: No player above $5.25m cap hit, second lowest payroll, written off by everyone as a bottom 3 team, finished 27th year prior, tons of rookies playing key and minor roles. Not really sure what else he'd have to do to make more of a case? If this was an eastern team and not the flames, he'd probably be a unanimous winner.

Shouldn't be but it will. The flames had way lower expectations, more rookies, lower payroll, finished worse last year and lost their best player and captain for the last 21 games. There should be no debate at all, don't really care about the other candidate's cases, they don't measure up to Bob's. Not even close.

The Kane injury was probably a blessing.

Yes. Of course I have my homer glasses on and admittedly do not know how the other coaches are, but man, Hartley is a gem. I love listening to his interviews and the things he says about the players, how he prepares them, how structures the way they play... I really hope we can have Hartley as the coach for a long time. I can't see him ever losing the room. There's a reason this guy has won a championship in every league he has coached in.

Devil's advocate:
Most heavily fined coach in the past two seasons and a menace to the gentlemanly spirit of the game. The NHL would be sending the wrong message by giving him the Jack Adams. They'd be moronically validating an increase in risk to player wellbeing.
The real winner in that case is the Department of Player Safety.

Well, I think in Roy's first game as a coach he almost broke shook the glass out of the boards he was so incensed at the opposing coach and yet he still won. I'm not sure who votes on this but I don't think Player Safety would have much pull in it. Plus, if this was voted on before the playoffs it would have been before his most recent fine.

Which was such a ridiculous kneejerk reaction from the league. We don't even have any goons in the lineup anymore, how is putting your 4th line on the ice when you're top line guys are getting targeted the wrong thing to do? Any other coach in that exact same situation does the same thing and hears nothing from the league, but because of Hartley's legendary incident last year he got hit with a reputation fine

Matt Stajan and Corey Potter are huge goons, though. Just like Blair Jones, Chris Butler and Ladislav Smid from the 2014 brawl.

If you are referring to Iginla, I don't think that was east v. west. It was more POs v. non-POs with the Montreal writer being the cherry on top.
What other awards did Calgary miss on because of eastern bias? For a while a Flame won the Calder every other year it seemed. Roberts and Lanny won Mastertons. Mullen won the Byng twice. Kipper won a Vezina.
